No, it took me a couple of sniffs and I was hooked. When I found a bottle secondhand, I jumped at it. Sometimes I'm not feeling it - but I can say that for pretty well everything in the herd.
The rest of the Le Labos...nope. I probably said that about Rose 31, or Labdanum 18, which I eventually gave up on.

Ahh. I can see how Rose 31 appeals to people but the the flowery component is too fleeting on me.

Tonight on my wrist: L'Artisan Safran Troublant - a great gourmand but couldn't imagine going through an entire bottle.

I recommend Secretions Magnifiques. You will make quite an impression with that. :)

I've had a bottle of Bel Ami for at least 5 year now and have hardly made a dent in it. Too sharp, too spicy.

Today I pulled it off the shelf, and for the first time in forever, it's agreeable.

Your choice is probably better than what I recommended! Congratulations on the new job, btw.

About five years ago, Bel Ami was probably the fragrance I wore more than any other. I haven't worn it as much in the last few years, though. When I read your post I thought, is it really that sharp and spicy? I went and applied a little and discovered that yes, it really is!

MPG George Sand for me today.

I got rid of my bottle years ago for that same reason. It overpowered me.

Next up in my sample box, Guerlain Eau de Coq. First of all, I love a Guerlain eau de cologne because it has that beautiful Guerlinade backbone. Second of all, I dumped on a vials worth and it's just about gone already, an hour later. Third, I realize that I don't really have a bottle of an eau de cologne, apart from Eau Savage, which doesn't quite count I don't think. I'd like to remedy that. Any suggestions? I was thinking of trying that Tauer one. Also, I know Luca Turin raves about Eau de Guerlain. There's also 4711, which I love but which also doesn't last.

Chanel's Eau de Cologne is supposedly nice but it comes in a huge bucket. That said, I'm not sure any classical cologne will last very long. The best I've seen in terms of longevity that comes close is Signoricci.

Now, what would a "sample sale" be? Samples for, like, $5 or something?

Tom Ford Black Orchid.

I like the scent - seems sophisticated and sexy - but it's a little stifling, if you know what I mean. It's not overpowering, like spray-on deodorant, but it's as though there's an ingredient that clogs the nose and prevents you from appreciating the scent to the fullest extent.
