Caron - Yatagan. This is, no doubt, one of the best values currently available. For the people who fear that their uniqueness will be corrupted by wearing it--since it's such a good value, it should, in theory, be very popular--, do not worry, you will not smell mainstream. To this day, I have not smelled it on a single person but me ever.

For what it's worth, I have reason to believe that a similar case can be made for Acqua di Parma's Colonia Assoluta and Chanel's Bois des Iles, though to a slightly lesser extent.

How do you like it?

I like it quite a bit. It's very heavy on the frankincense, but it's also rich and resiny. The notes that you see on various online fragrance sites have to be wrong. Also, people who got sneak previews of this said that it was a bit like the discontinued Amber Absolute, but the two are very different.

It seems like it would have made more sense for them to release this in the fall or winter.

Dzonghka today. Quite liking this, projection is also good. Maybe a bit much for the office?

Today: Diptyque Vetyverio - this is one of those few fragrances with vetiver that is "first among equals", meaning that that are several other components that are just as strong as the vetiver but you still classify it as a vetiver fragrance. Coeur de Vetiver Sacre would be another one of these types I am referring to.

And it has been for the past two days as well. I'm not sure why I really like this stuff. It's not like I'm old enough to remember its heydays in the '80s or lament over its reformulations or whatever. Sometimes I'll blend it with something like Fleur du Male because I think they harmonize well (I know what you're thinking - I likely fumigate whatever place I am in during the application, which might be true).

Maybe I'll turn this into a classics week and wear Fahrenheit later on this evening.

Serge Lutens Arabie today. I love the big spice hit I get when I spray this in the morning.

Marvelously well made. Poor longevity a letdown, and drydown is nondescript.
