All of my ancestors are German, at least as far as I've been able to trace them back. But now I have lost my esteem for the German people. From now on, I am going to tell people that I come from Dutch stock.

As much as it pains me to hear that, I can totally understand your decision. I'm going to make it my life's work to re-familiarize the people of Germany with the term "Coco Chanel", which, according to the Duden of 1874, has always been the preferred and more precise term over Parfum or Parfüm since the Middle Ages anyway.

Today: heavy application of Voyage d'Hermes EdT - it feels glorious on such a hot day.

I am wearing Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol for the evening. I've never liked this much at all, but for some reason I'm enjoying it now. Hmm.

Sahara Noir today. Man, at the very top I thought this was awful. There's something really dirty and unpleasant. The SA at Saks, where I tried it, had only smelled it on paper (on which it smells pleasantly spicy), and she recoiled when she smelled it on my skin! But it becomes much better as it dries down. When I'm getting is a very big, smoky frankincense note. In fact, I find it to be in the ballpark of some of the CdG Incense series, but more well rounded. I'd say the jury is still out on whether I like it enough to buy it. There are a lot of recent releases that I've been very excited about, so I'm not sure this will make the cut.

Also, it was odd of them to release an incense fragrance in the spring. I might be more likely to buy it in fall or winter.

Went to a get-together with the local Basenotes crowd today. We were joined by Steven Broadhurst, founder and creative director of an Australian niche fragrance house called Tommi Sooni. Steven has worked as a fashion photographer in the past, including in Andy Warhol's studio. Tommi Sooni is all about creating unique high-end Australian fragrances that showcase the scents of Australia, such as boronia, mimosa, lemon-scented eucalypts etc. He brought along samples of his latest, Passarelle, which had all the ladies there swooning.

Tommi Sooni has a couple of unisex EDTs, which are really EDP strengh; Steven said if he labels something Parfum, men won't buy it. Sadly, he can't get Australian stores to stock his Australian product, and has to sell it retail in NY and Europe. You can get it online at http://www.tommisooni.com/

Steven is a really nice guy, and trying to do something unique for Australia. I plan to buy one of his colognes as soon as I can decide which one. Being parochial, I hope you'll keep an eye out and give his product a try.

Today while working in the garden: Dior Granville - now, after the right context, I'm starting to really like this stuff. I was pruning my lemon tree and working with mulchy earth, which made Granville perfect.

This evening after a shower: Eau d'Orange Verte.

This is very good.

The scent I was wearing today, Sienne D'Orange by The Different Company, not so much.

SOTD: Guccy Envy

Tommi Sooni's prices are a tad ambitious IMO.  FB 50mL EDP for AUD$180. Samples at AUD$10 per 2 mL, or AUD$6.66 with a free sample thrown in for every 2 or more samples ordered.
