Scent/Fragrance of the Day thread - Page 1058

Pre-shower: Tom Ford Noir. I bought a whole bottle of this right after it came out, but I have to admit it's hard to enjoy.
SOTD: ELDO Bijou Romantique. I bought a bottle of this not too terribly long after it came out, but I enjoy this one very much indeed.

I need to try Bijou Romantique again.

I've tried so hard to like oud, but I've just never been able to enjoy that weird medicinal mutant spice thing. I thought that this one might be the one since it's seen as being leathery, but all I could get was the oud. (I think things started to go bad between oud and me when the sample of Bond New York Oud I got leaked in my sample box and actually stripped the ink off the printed wrapper and then left an aggressively synthetic toxic cloud lingering for more than a week...) Bummer.

^^ I'd recommend trying L'Artisan Al Oudh and Mona di Orio's Oud.

Have you tried Fico di Amalfi? Citrus and green fig- lovely, except for that perennial problem of longevity on my skin.

How about MFK Oud? IMO very classy....

SOTD: MFK Aqua Universalis Forte.  First wear, drydown smells a bit like laundry detergent, but overall I still like this scent a lot. Not surprising as they have Aqua Universalis scented laundry detergent.

I think Aedes has the l'Artisan, and *might* have the Mona di Orio, so the next time I go back I'll check them out. There may still be hope for me: I remembered that when I tried M7 I didn't mind the oud note, but it seemed more balanced and altogether tame compared to the oud bombs that are out there now. Also, doesn't synthetic oud smell, well, synthetic? Is there a fragrance that uses real oud? maybe I'd enjoy that more. Overall, though, I think that I can take oud in a fragrance that uses it mainly as a deepening or darkening element (like the use of patchouli as a fixative/base note), and not as the main note.

Thanks, I'll check this out as well (I think MFKs got a few different ouds, yes?), although I really haven't been enamored with much in the MFK line, unfortunately....

That's a bummer because if the person did a good job on sealing that bottle, then . . .

Like L'Inc was implying, there are so many ouds out there, and I think L'Artisan Al Aoud is stupendous and surrounded by different supporting ingredients. I don't know what you think about Kouros, but Dior Leather Oud is something to try.

You definitely like the fresh fragrances with that showing. How about:

Voyage d'Hermes
Hermes Jardin Series

These above two lean towards a fresh, airy scent that is very typical for all of Jean Claude Ellena's works over the past 20 years, so you should go to an Hermes boutique and try the stuff that is only sold in their store as well. The Jardin series is marketed towards women but don't let that affect your perspective because they are definitely for men and women.

A fragrance that is not light, green, and citrus but you may still like is the quite avant garde Commes des Garcons Harissa. I don't want to describe them but just want you to approach them with your own nose.

Try Ormonde Man
Top Notes: Juniper berry, bergamot, pink pepper, cardamom and coriander seeds
Heart Notes: Oudh and black hemlock
Base Notes: Vetiver, cedar, sandalwood and musk

You will notice it has a very similar construction to Ormonde Woman with Oudh instead of Jasmine

Ormonde Woman
Top Notes: Cardamom, coriander and grass oil
Heart Notes: Black hemlock, violet and jasmine absolute
Base Notes: Vetiver, cedar wood, amber and sandalwood

I have just noticed you already have it! Oops.
