Scent/Fragrance of the Day thread - Page 1030

Rose de Siwa was quite a disappointment. I was really looking forward to MDCI's take on rose, but it doesn't seem like anything that special at all. It's very similar to Diptyque's Eau Rose, with a strong litchi and rose accord. (The Diptyque came out later.) I prefer Eau Rose by quite a bit, and it's a lot more reasonably priced.

I've switched into PdN New York, which is having its second run as the hippest frag on the web.

I am looking for a cologne that a young professional could wear to work on certain days..

but also something that would work for after work when heading to happy hour/evening cocktails? any suggestions? I am fairly open to all fragrances/scents

your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

I think two scents that are both "young" and appropriate for a professional are Dior Homme and L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Extreme

That's a good point. I just looked around the Internet and I was able to find some bottles for sale. But it's not the easiest thing to find. The regular L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme is very good too.

I am becoming a big fan of the new Frederic Malle Dries van Noten scent. Last night I found myself craving it, and when I put a little on, it really hit the spot. I typically overestimate how much I like a scent during the early stages of my getting used to it, but I'm liking it very much.

SOTD: Perfect time to wear Egoiste on this icy day in NYC.

Ok, so is this a US-only thing? The retailer I inquired at about it asked PdN and according to them, the label won't change for (their next order)?

Not 100% sure. You could ask the gents on basenotes: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/318843-PdN-New-York

Cravate - wow, amazing. I'd love to meet him. Got his book right here on my desk which was a birthday present last year actually. I'm a firm believer that it doesn't matter what you do, if you have passion for it, it'll come through. Actually much like yourself and your lifestyle actually. I don't always share the same interests as people but I love finding the passion, it's just too rare these days IMO.

Yesterday's SOTD - doused myself with Kilian's Pure Oud, Amber Oud, and Incense Oud... hmmm, and yet for nearly $500 a pop these things didn't last more than 3-4 hours, shameful. Incense Oud really is beautiful, but almost no lasting power considering it's an Oud.
(PM me for a 30ml decant if anyone's interested lol.)

M-C, is the book you are referring to worth reading?

Just received a whole shed-load of samples from M-C, so lots of new things to try.

Today is Byredo Sunday Cologne.

Le Labo Santal 33 smelled like wood planks in a carpenter's workshop, together with varnish.

Intriguing but I do not want to smell like a block of wood. Might work if you layer something on top. But way too pricey if I need to do that.

Sampling Le Labo Iris 39 beside Malle Iris Poudre - I prefer the Iris 39 and the Malle is WAY too aldehydic and feminine for my taste. There's a lot of patchouli (relatively speaking) and probably some wood in the Iris 39 that makes it more masculine and earthy.
