SOTD: Cacharel pour homme.

I had a bottle of that years ago, I just remember the nutmeg note. That's not a note you find often.

SOTD...and every day if I could get it--Eau du Fier by Annick Goutal. Why oh why did they ever discontinue that fragrance?!--one of the most unequivocally masculine fragrances without being crude or disingenuous.

And if anyone has any that they just can't get next to...a partial bottle or a decant...PM me.

ha, I know that nutmeg note! I think I have a sample this from the swap box's earlier rounds and the note popped right out...





PS - I'm actually kindof surprised more of you didn't message me about decants and bottles and stuff. I figured you'd all jump on that... huh

SOTD M/Mink

I was seriously thinking about that one for today myself. Also, I don't think I'd noticed before that you use British English spellings. I guess it makes sense.


Don't remember if I've already asked, but what do you think of M/Mink?

Pre-shower: Pure Malt. I don't know if it's possible for a scent to live up to all the hype this one has gotten, but it is very good.
SOTD: Mona di Orio Oud

On Sunday evening I sprayed on some Pure Malt and really just don't get how it's different in any significant way from A*Men.

but...but...its maltier!

I think it definitely retains the core of A*Men, but to my nose the opening is peaty and boozy in a way that the original is not.

I went into the wayback machine and pulled out a sample of Geir Ness today. When I first started hanging around Basenotes, this was one of the most popular crowd faves. For some reason I never hear about it anymore. I have mixed feelings about it - there's an aquatic note that really bothers me so I have to wear it very light, but aside from that it's a very nice floral.

Never nosed either Pure Malt or A Men but if I understand what you're looking for, you might try Fumidus by Profumum--maybe the quintessential Scotch and cigars fragrance. Starts off almost too much jazz-nightclub-the-morning-after, but it quickly mellows out to something that just feels like you've had a comfortable and pleasant evening with Churchill and Hemingway...or maybe Simon Fraser on June 7th...and the night's still young.

Nice to have you post here DWFII, I've done a lot of searching on the old, old Basenotes forums for good information about pre-Aventus fragrances and saw you posting there relatively often.

Today: Frederic Malle Noir Epices - VERY Guerlainade. I get a hybrid between Mitsouko and Derby, so not bad at all.
