Scent/Fragrance of the Day thread - Page 960

Today, Ormonde Man. I don't think I've worn this since I got it years ago.

SOTD: Les Nombres d`Or Vetyver by Mona di Orio. My favorite vetiver with the Hermes Tonka.

Pre-shower: Angel Les Parfums de Cuir. Man, I like this one a lot. It is pretty much what the name suggests: Angel with a prominent leather note. It is considerably more masculine than the regular Angel, unsurprisingly.

SOTD: Bijou Romantique.

Today: Patchouli 24. Does anyone else love this? I sure as hell do.

So, since I haven't taken a shower today, and I forgot to mention that I put on Tuscan Leather on yesterday morning, I've got the smell of Patchouli 24, Tuscan Leather, and Aoud Cuir d'Arabie mingling from my corpus.

I have a dumb question.

 

I'm new to fragrances.  Why wear something pre-shower?  Doesn't it just wash off in the shower?

Not a dumb question at all.

A lot of the regulars here have collections of fragrances numbering in the hundreds. If we wore just one fragrance per day, we would hardly ever get the opportunity to smell the stuff we have. Speaking for myself, I rarely take a shower first thing after I get up in the morning, so that gives me the opportunity to enjoy a different fragrance for a little while in the morning. I often use the pre-shower time to wear something that doesn't get much use.

Today: Aoud Cuir D'Arabie. I know there's a lot of fans of this one, but I realize that I'm just not really into Oud. I like it in lesser concentrations and as a supporting basenote, but as the main note, I don't really enjoy the strongly medicinal, cheesy/butyric vibe I get. As others have noted, this is very barnyard at the opening, but it *is* nicer in the dry down. I don't really get much leather, either. Oh well. Back in the sample box to be tried again later...

And also, it's mainly just you that does this, right? Or has it gone viral.

Hmm, I know that some other people report a couple different scents over the course of the day. (HORNS does that, and I think b1os sometimes does too.) But I guess they're probably not pre-shower and post-shower. If it hasn't gone viral, it should because it's a pretty good idea, if I do say so myself.

I imagine some of the powerhouse scents you wear wouldn't come off in the shower unless you worked really hard at it! (The other day I wore Jubilation XXV as my pre-shower, and I swear I couldn't get it off my arm.)

Naw, during the weekday it's preshower just like L'Inc does it - I have about 2 hours of coffee, breakfast, and pewping to get my day started off right, so I enjoy using a sample during that time without the "risk" of committing to a unknown fragrance all day.

I just put in an order for Mouchoir de Monsieur through Neimans.

Hmmm, well i smell it every few days at the shop where I work but haven't given it more full wearings (I rarely fully wear anything nowadays actually). I think my opinion of it is the same, it's an interesting composition but I don't think I'd really enjoy wearing it, certainly not enough to want to own a bottle. In theory it sounds great but actually wearing it I just find it all a bit too much. I will say that I think Malle's line is really build for scent lovers and appreciators and given enough time one can certain come to understand them, but like I've always said of Guerlain, there are many I respect, but few I actually own and wear.

The KJ, well I've only whiffed the bottle a few times and that smokeyness scares me so I'll get to it at some point but for now I'm still intimidated. Plus I have a bag of literally 100+ samples to work through and only 2 days off a week, and considering I'm surrounded by fragrance all day I almost enjoy resting my nose on off days... I'm going to work through everything within the next month though since I'm loading up the swap box (updates coming in the next month)

I do this too (pre-shower), once in a while as I test a new scent. Running with a scent allows me to get to drydown pretty quickly although sometimes it takes me a few minutes to realize what I'm sniffing.

Pre-shower: Villoresi Musk. For some reason, I haven't worn this for a long time. I'm a big fan.
SOTD: TF White Patchouli. I was checking out reviews online for this one, and it's amazing how different they are. You wouldn't think they're describing the same fragrance. (I tried this right after it came out. I liked it a lot, but the SA convinced me not to buy it on the grounds that it was too floral for a guy. I eventually bought a bottle, though.)
