Sampling Serge Noire today. As others have reported, it's pretty skanky for the first 20-30 minutes & then becomes quite pleasant in the dry down.

Whelp, I went and got samples of the new Bond's myself. Wearing Manhattan now. Not bad. There's a note in here that's slightly offputting though.

Dude. It's all about rose. There are a lot of other things going on but it's rose in the extreme. Some are put off by the purported femininity - I know that won't be a problem for you. I think that reaction is mostly due to the heavy rose plus aldehydic opening.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. It looks like there are some bottles to be found at not too unreasonable prices.

I'm in Ouarzazate for the evening. Big thanks to Rambo for suggesting I check this one out.

This morning I'm trying on ELdO Jasmin et Cigarette (thank you!) as a sample and really like this stuff, but I'm glad I didn't blind-buy this like I was going to. It's well made and I am surprised that the Fragrantica website does not list Iris as one of the notes.

After wearing Creed BdP as my winter fragrance for several years, I ran out, so I've been wearing Chanel Platinum Egoiste for the past few months. Yesterday I found Aramis Havana and liked it so much, I bought a bottle and I'm wearing it today. It's completely different from either of the others and I really like it. While I like Platinum Egoiste because it's limited projection makes it muted and subtle, Havana is so assertive, it may knock over some of my dance partners! (I searched for Havana about five years ago and couldn't find it, so I'm glad it's been re-issued, even if it may be a new formulation. I never had a chance to try the original, so I can't compare, but I really like the Havana I bought yesterday).

They just re-released it a year or two ago. Welcome to the Havana club.

Yesterday: Portrait of a Lady. Today: Armani Privé Bois d'Encens.

I received about half of my decants yesterday, so I'm going to be slowly working through them over the next few weeks. (I also picked up a couple Hermessance samples —Vetiver Tonka & Poivre Samarcand—and checked out Jour d'Hermes as well.)

On wearing PoaL I found it to be a gorgeous, busty, jammy & citric rose with the patchouli beautifully balanced. Symphonic; it reminded me of Amouage Homage in it's depth and scope. I *love* smelling this stuff, but I'm not sure if I can wear it—overall it seemed disembodied, like it wasn't part of me but instead just laying on top of my skin.

Bois d'Encens: Smooth, dry, frankincense smoke in a freshly cut super-resinous cedar trunk. Back in the mid 90s, I would buy those bubbly chunks of frankincense and burn them with abandon. My house probably smelled like a head shop (not too far from the reality at the time! icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif) so it brings back, uh, interesting memories....

This evening: Parfums Regence Oak Moss - very "Guerlinade" in its qualities with a LOT of stank.

Today I felt like something different so I dug out the decant of Divine L'Homme Sage. Very satisfying.
