SOTD: MDCI Chypre Palatin. Sampling this for the second time today. It's every bit as good as the hype suggests, IMO. It's by Bertrand Duchaufour, who does a lot of L'Artisan Parfumeur's scents.

Thanks for the link... I tried a sample (given by Ellena himself to the Hermes sales rep and then to our SA at the shop) or some new frag... which I figured was Jour. I smelled a warm soft melony floral thing.. Inc, was that the smell?

Just tested MDCI Chypre at Osswald a few weeks ago during Sniffipalooza and got a sample I'm sort of worried about testing incase I love it and need to sell a kidney to buy a bottle... then again I do own Invasion Barbare.

Small sales plug here... Just got a bottle of Guerlain 180 Ans de Creations... not sure what to do with it. Still BNIB. Anyone interested to buy this off me? I'm not such a Guerlainophile so it doesn't particularly interest me... lemme know if you want it. (review here: http://www.basenotes.net/ID26130215.html, https://www.examiner.com/article/featured-review-guerlain-180-ans-de-creations, http://monsieurguerlain2.blogspot.ca/2008/06/180-ans-de-creations-1828-2008.html)... no idea what it's worth although some ebay auctions put it around $300-400 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GUERLAIN-Limited-Edition-180-ANS-Perfume-Collectors-Item-/120786009416, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Guerlain-180-ANS-DE-CREATIONS-Eau-de-Parfum-75ml-2-5-fl/190591540163)

@M-C: Yeah, that's definitely Jour. There's a kind of tart note that reminds me just a touch of Jardin sur le Nil; I'm guessing that's what you're picking up as melon.
Also, Chypre Palatin really is wonderful. I'm actually not a big fan of Invasion Barbare, although I can appreciate the high quality.

Today: Vintage Lauder for Men. A powerhouse fougere, with a sweaty/urinous undertone. There's a lot going on in here, and it's strong stuff...I'm still trying to find my sea legs with the whole aromatic/animalic fougere genre, so I'm still a bit of a wuss...

Well, in the spirit of Rambo's decant-a-palooza, I went nuts today and ordered a bunch of decants that I've been meaning to check out. L'inc, I thought of you with some of the rose-based scents I put on my wishlist, and b1os, Horns, and Baron I had you guys in mind for the ouds and fougeres....

With this batch, though, I wanted to focus on incenses and leathers. Christmas is going to be good this year! happy.gif

nice decant pickup list Maquis... personally I thought the XXV was better than Aedus L'Artisan (both incense/berry frags by Dachefour (sp?)). Curious to hear your thoughts on comparing the Goutal and Armani Incenses too.

Thanks, Master-Classter. Up to now, I haven't been very interested in incense frags (I've thought of them as too heavy and "orientalist", I guess... ), but lately I've been wanting a winter scent that is warm and enveloping. If the incense can be tempered with with something else and skew leathery (or perhaps oud-y?), it might work...

I've checked out the L'Artisan Aedes and the Jubilation XXV individually, but have never worn either. It will be interesting to see how they (and The Goutal and Armani) compare.

Pre-shower: Eloge du Traitre (ELDO)
SOTD: Black Violet. This is a solid offering from the first batch of Private Blends, but definitely not among my very favorites. Still, it's worth wearing from time to time.

I'm not surprised; reviews of that have been very poor. I actually thought it was okay, but I don't think it's as good as the other flankers.
