Today: Frederic Malle Noir Epices

I need to get to know this better. I have just worn it twice so far I think (sample still pretty much full -- 2-2.5ml samples last a long time on me, I only need two sprays per application). The first time was rather meh, but that was in my very early fragrance days. The last time I found it more interesting. I guess I'll wear it more often this fall/winter. Haven't had a FM fragrance that disappointed me so far, so I guess I'll get to like/love Noir Épices too!
... so what's your take on it?

It's "Something Old, Something New", I think (or so says Google). Is it worth it? On my list to watch then.

Part 1:

It's good but not great, IMO. The inside baseball is interesting, but of course they pitch it to a general audience, so some things are simplified. I got the sense it was shot like reality tv, where the people were acting out pre-scripted scenes while trying to present the events as entirely natural.

Wore Lutens' L'eau Froide today. A very clean aquatic with a heavy dose of frankincense. I've been looking for fragrances I can wear on gym days without choking myself and others out. This fits the bill nicely.

Honestly, I'm not crazy about it. I keep thinking (because it's Malle) that I should like it more, but it strikes me as being just OK every time. You can tell the ingredients are high quality, but it's a little too subtle for me--I can tell it's there, but I can't always tell what it is.

I had the same reaction to NE. Given how much I enjoyed bigarade concentree and vetiver extraordinaire (and Portrait of a Lady, Parfum de therese, etc etc), I really wanted to like NE more than I did.

Ps. Nice to see Mr. Guerlain; I remember reading and enjoying many posts of his back in the day on Basenotes.

SOTD today is Climat de Lancome; it's an old floral aldehyde along the lines of Madame Rochas. Jin threw it in for free with the other stuff I picked up for some members here, so I thought I'd give it a wearing.

Oh man, now both of you have killed (nearly) all of my expectations. After all, I think my initial assessment was pretty acurate. Anyhoo, I'll still try to wear it more often. And maybe, which is entirely possible, I'll come to appreciate it more... will keep you guys updated.

Noir Epices really grew on me. I was totally ambivalent to it at the beginning, but now I love it. I suppose it used to seem rather cold and distant, but now when I wear it I can smell it's depth and intrigue. That citrus note really blooms and ripens now - I never got that before, just the pepper and spice. It a bit perfumey when it goes on - that used to bother me too but I've gotten used to that quality in many scents.

I do love many others in the line - all the ones Rach just mentioned, plus En Passant, Angeliques, Carnal Flower. There are some scents in that line that do nothing for me. Geranium pour Monsieur and French Lover are two.

I wore Amouage Epic Man today.  True to it's name.  EPIC!  after 12 hours and just two sprays it's still just as if sprayed on recently.  My wife thought I just applied it.  Had to swear it was only at the start of the day.
 

costume national - scent intense ( eau de parfum ). 

 

man, this one i bought about 8 years ago and it's one of my strongest scent that gets better as the the day goes on and it lasts all day.  really happy i kept this small little bottle.  i use it sparingly.
 

Lots of new posters in this thread over the last couple of weeks. That's great to see!

I'm wearing M/Mink today. This is one of the coldest, least inviting fragrances I know.

Last Night: Guerlain Cuir Beluga on my right wrist. I like it but it's a little too precious a "leather" for my taste. It lasts forever, though!

Today: A heavy swipe of Mitsouko across my wrists (my left one has the oakmoss left over from the Cuir Beluga to just add more to the Mitsouko).

AbdesSalam Attar Tabac today. My sample' running out & I will definitely be purchasing a bottle of this soon.
