Scent/Fragrance of the Day thread - Page 867

Prada Nr. 3 - Ambre Cuire. I like it a lot! Leather, amber. And some other stuff to fill it out. Smells really good. Maybe a little similar to Bois des Iles parfum (or Cuir de Russie parfum? I always mix them up, need to give them a cross wear).
I think they're sold as "parfum" but it's not quite as strong. Maybe in between EdP and éxtrait. Longevity seems decent, projection not that great (but just wore it on the back of my hand).

And unfortunately gets rid of great ones too. frown.gif

Looking forward to trying them. Probably won't have a chance to before I'm in Hamburg at the end of the month for a couple days (there's a TF counter at the Alsterhaus).

Lots of new Tom Ford!

Four new Private Blends--called the Jardin Noir series. All are studies of flowers. Ombre de Hyacinth, Lys Fume, Jonquil de Nuit, and Cafe Rose. IMO, Cafe Rose is very, very good, but the other three are disappointments. They don't seem like PBs to me.

Then there's a new TF from the Signature Series--just called Tom Ford Noir. It's quite complex and interesting. It opens with lots of pepper, which I know you like. It's also quite cool and leafy. As it dries down, it becomes more powdery and sweet, but never veers into feminine territory.

I'm a purist, and admittedly old fashioned when it comes to stuff like this... but I think it's a mistake (and short-sighted) to treat fragrance like a standard seasonal item/collection. He seems to treat fragrances like he does an accessories line, IMHO releasing too much at once, or taking away things if they don't meet sales expectations. That may work for a line of shoes or scarves, but not a scent. Sometimes, a scent is "out of its time," or takes a while to appreciate. Sometimes customers sniff is once and don't like it, but months later like it again.

/end old man rant

p.s. I'm going to find the oldest, most out of fashion Caron I can find in my collection for today. Something that Ford would have discontinued about a week after it was launched. lol8[1].gif

Interesting. Is the 'signature' line the regular lineup with Tom Ford and Tom Ford Extreme?

Rach - he's turning into Bond #9

Yeah, Signature is TF for Men, TF Extreme, Black Orchid, White Patchouli, Violet Blonde, and now TF Noir. In other words, all the TFs that don't come in the PB bottle.

I figured. Thanks for confirming. I'm not overly excited as I suspect these will be like the Suede series. But I'll hunt down the rose one.

lol8[1].gif I was JUST going to say that, "he's like Bond!" They had the same problem, though, and it made it difficult to appreciate the line. I guess from a marketing/brand perspective they are trying to, in one fell swoop, match ANY potential customer, and lacking the 150 year history of Guerlain, going POW and in one moment having a full fragrance house.

I wonder how many customers (such as this one) find it overwhelming and leave a TF store or counter buying nothing, and tired from trying to keep in mind 15 different samples. Fragrance buying is fun when it is relaxing... and having a million choices and a poorly trained sales rep who can't really tell you anything except "DAVID BOWIE WEARS THIS!" just ruins my day.

I think there's a reasonable chance you'd like TF Noir. I'm pretty sure you would not like the new PBs, with the possible exception of Cafe Rose.

Also, the new Jardin Noir scents are in the classic PB bottle, except the nameplate is lavender. To my eye, it looks cheap and out of keeping with the TF aesthetic. The musk series bottles were also different from the regular PBs, but those still looked good.

Now I smell similarities to Mitsuoko parfum... I think my brain is constantly playing tricks on me and mixes everything together.. but that's what I smell right now.

Has anyone of you actually worn one of the Prada exclusifs? They've got to be some of the least common fragrances out there. I think they were released in '04..

Frapin Caravelle Epicée for the fall weather here in NYC (and then a late afternoon spray of Ormonde Man after the spiciness of the Frapin wore off, just because it smells amazing...)

Decided to wear a purple shirt this morning, so Bois De Violette today
