found a sample of Angel Havanne in my dopp kit. If anyone can score some of this, let me know. I think I'd like to have some on hand for the colder days and hotter nights.

I rewarded myself with some pure oud oil today. Really, if you like oud in fragrances, get yourself some pure oud oil. I can recommend www.agaraura.com . I probably said it ten times by now, but whatever. Still going strong with some projection after 10 hours (tiny dab). Dusty by now, almost a hint of menthol.

Do you enjoy Ocean Rain? I find it interesting historically, but I can't honestly say that I enjoy it.

Continuing with sampling the new TF Private Blends (the Jardin Noir series). Today it's Ombre de Hyacinth. First, I have to say that I find the fragrance name en franglais to be charming; I know other people hate that. About the juice itself, man oh man is this one challenging at the top. It's extremely green and extremely bitter. There's also a plasticky smell that I get, which reminds me a bit of Prada Candy. I don't like that smell in Candy and I don't like it in this either. Thankfully, the super bitter notes don't last too long. As it dries down, Ombre de Hyacinth becomes a very different fragrance. It remains a green floral, but it becomes more buttery and more natural smelling. Further into the drydown, the rough edges are smoothed out some more by some pleasant ambery notes. As with Jonquille de Nuit, I don't think this is going to become a regular in my rotation.

I haven't liked it in the past but I really liked it today because of the situation I was in: sitting in the sun with ladies around me wearing Bain de Soleil. The drydown was actually very nice.

JEALOUS! Today is a "sit in front of the computer writing a research article." I take a 10:30 break to have a granola bar and play on SF. UGH.

Thinking of greener pastures with some D'orsay Tilleuil.

18 hours in and one shower later, the oud smells like the opening again. The cycle is complete.

Would like to second this - I can't think of many things that brighten up my usually mundane day at the office as much as following a scent's development over the course of a couple of hours. I've learnt a heck of alot from this thread, Dane's site, Turin's guide and even the men's fragrances thread on sz. Thank you.

Eau noire today (curry, then curry mixed with caramel; some lavender in there), philosykos yesterday and saturday.

Eau Noire is the one with the heavy immortelle note, no?

Today, we had a cool snap, and it was like manna from the heavens. I finally got to reach into the winter drawer and pull something with depth and body, and what did I reach for? Goutal Ambre Fetiche.

I received a small decant of this a few years back from a friend who went on a huge sample binge, and it never took for me until I wore it on a weekend away from home. When I found that AA was being discontinued I sought this out and found a bottle secondhand - and funny enough a friend got me in contact with a friend of hers who was selling her bottle, so I got hers for a reasonable price. Thank heavens. Turned out that I'd bought bottles from her in the past, years ago. Small world, this.

It was nice up in Marin yesterday with a temperature in the mid 80s. I got too warm at one point and went inside to take a nap on the couch.

Today: Satori Iris Homme. Rach, you really should go by this woman's shop in Tokyo - Parfum Satori.

Nice! Anyone want to split a bottle, or want a decant? Probably don't need 3.4oz of it.

Also, AMen Leather? Says its exclusive to the online store. Anyone try it?

I've heard a positive comment re: the Leather but haven't tried it myself.

AnOther 13. This is really interesting. It's mainly ambrox, but it's a very complex scent. For starters, it's very pungent and animalic like real ambergris. But at the same time it's quite woody, sweet, and creamy. I'm not sure if I like it yet, but I'm leaning toward yes.

How does the pure oud oil compare to frangrances that contain oud as a constituent, specifically I am thinking of Kilian Pure Oud and Incense Oud, and Tom Ford's Oud Wood. Do you know if these even contain actual oud? I am guessing the Kilian ones do, as they are priced much higher than the rest of the line.
