Civetty is a word now.

It was the always dreaded EDT.

However, I suspect that the present formulation of Jicky has been "re-adapted" for modern audiences, which probably makes it less civetty than the original formula. It's certainly true of many of those old heady scents--Cuir de Russie, Fracas, Bandit, etc.

I prefer "civeticious" myself (haha).

It's a little harder to find, but try the EdT of Bandit instead of the EdP. The EdP is smoother and "adapted" but the EdT, strangely, is really foul and more like the original. It's harsh, combattive, just as intended. My SOTD today is Creed Bois du Portugal.

rach2jlc,

Just out of curiosity, how large is your fragrance collection?

Over the past year, I've been trying to whittle it down to essentials because I realized in about 1000 years of constant use I"ll never use all of them. At its peak... probably 200. Right now, maybe 95 or so. I'm hoping to get it down to fifty by spring.

You know, that was the one Malle I just couldn't warm up to... it seemed to me a great ROOM spray, but just didn't work as well on my skin.

But, of course, the neat thing about malle and such houses is how they react so differently to different noses!

Interesting because this one was love at first smell. You know I like dry, heavy fragrances. I usually wear it in the wintertime, but discovered that it works well in the warmer months as well. Since fragrances evokes memories, Noir Epices is special because it reminds me of Paris when I first visited the Frederic Malle boutique at the Rue de Grenelle 2 years ago. Now, I'm sampling "Une Rose" and might be my next Malle purchase. The development of Une Rose on my skin is exceptional. It lasted on my skin the entire day yesterday! Luckily, we have Barney's here in L.A. and don't have to go to Paris to purchase them.

Thanks for the suggestions. The vanilla and sandalwood combo sounds great, as those were two of the first disctinct smells I knew I liked (they're both in Pi, right?).

But yeah, I'm definitely into the sweet but dark, woody, spicy scents. I'll have to experiment some. I've basically not really used cologne over the past couple of years (showers and deodarant make do). I'm always very self-conscious of having having a strong scent wafting off that my co-workers can smell without being really close. I never really know how strong the scent is, and I'm always afraid that I've overdone it because the couple of colognes that I have are pretty strong on initial spray, even though I will only use 2 quick sprays max when applying.

24 December 2007 (yes I'm at work)

Hermes Rocabar. Actually that's been my SOTD since Saturday, despite adding a bounty of new scents to my wardrobe (Signoricci, PC Centaure Noir, Pasha, Be Delicious). I can't wear Rocabar without thinking Christmas.

Strangely enough, I've been stuck on the same shaving soap since Friday - a apple / orange / clove scented concoction that screams "Christmas!!!" and if I don't use it now, I'll not be using it again until this time next year.

Today I'm wearing what I think is "Christmas in a bottle," Comptoir Sud Pacifique's "Vanille Canelle." Vanilla and cinammon, with a warm musk base. I'll be heading over to my parent's cabin out in the country later today... the whole family (about 25 people or so) there next to the fireplace. We'll even be bringing the dogs... a giant bloodhound and a beagle and after lots of bourbon drinking, if that doesn't say "Christmas".. I don't know what does.

Then, by about 8:00 pm, we'll all be so sick of each other we won't even be able to see straight. Even the dogs will be ready to go home.
