I agree about cologne being gay; look what it did to me! (I blame it on my first bottle of Chanel PM... as a 6th grader in middle school. haha)

Anyway, going to be 60 degrees today, so time to break out my Springtime go-to... Eau de Lalique.
Mentioned it so many times on SF I won't bore you with another descrip... just try it!

Merci beaucoup. I think I'll go for the edp then cause it's the same price.

Sampled TF - White Suede and Noir de Noir. I liked the former from the very beginning. Sweet, but not too sweet. Musky, but not soapy at all. Powdery, but not overly powdery. Very well balanced. I'm not sure about Noir de Noir yet. I'm not so familiar with the notes. I don't dislike it, but I don't love it either -- so far. Guess it needs a couple wears

You have just given me a great idea, rach! There are certain guys who are not in my market, so to speak, that I might have a chance with if I can just get them to try Chanel PM.

Weird. Sounds like your sample must be off. There's a lot more going on than that. Maybe you are anosmic to some of the woody notes?

Today, Mitsouko

+1. Or I wonder if he was sent the wrong sample by mistake?

Of all the things one could get from Egoiste... it shouldn't be "ROSE!" I've heard of people who get only a very cloying vanilla, others who get a very dry, almost astringent woods (from the synthetic sandalwood)... and some who get a strong citrus topnote... but I don't know that I've ever heard of that pronounced a rose from start to finish.

In any case, he should go and sample again at a fragrance counter somewhere to make sure.

Went out tonight with another springtime gem... Chanel gardenia.

It's been released three times, in three different formulations: the original in 1925, a reformulation in the 1990's, and then the Les Exclusifs.

Mine is the middle one, from about 2001, not the Les Exclusifs.

The original was a crisp, fresh aldehydic floral, whereas the 1990's reformulation made it a very direct, very white floral... I get neroli (or some sweet citrus), tuberose, and jasmine.

In a wardrobe of florals, it is an interesting companion to Diorissimo... which is much dirtier and "fleeting." This one is more wet, more rich, more tropical. I've heard the Les Exclusifs reformulation is much lighter, greener, and more fleeting. I haven't tried it so would be curious to hear from those who have.

Lately i was wondering if there s any good quality salty notes

The Difference Company Sel Vetiver has salt right in the title, but I haven't smelled it so I'm not sure how salty it is.

I do think Annick Goutal's Vetiver is kinda salty.

Really, now?

PdN Le Temps d'Une Fete for me today. Don't think I've worn this since last summer, but it's a wonderful springy floral.

Continuing on my TF samples, Azure Lime.

Floris - Eau de Santal. I like the citrusy opening -- pretty good for spring --, but the drydown is a little too sweet, imo. It stays close to the skin but lasts quite some time.
I love the smell of the opened vial (no atomizer).

hey prof fab, I was thinking of you yesterday as I applied some Jicky parfum to the one hand... and then some mouchoir de monseur on the other... and I have to say I preferred the latter! any thoughts?

today I was in nyc (here for the week incase anyone wants to meet up) and went past Creed, Malle, Diptyque, and Bond - all along Madison Ave. smelled bond harrod's oud (quite like Ford's Oud Wood), then NYC oud (really nice!), and the new ambers (rather unusual, not sure I liked them) and harrod's for him (didn't like)... amongst others. Nothing at Malle I hadn't smelled already. Diptyque had quite a few exlusives which were interesting actually - worth going to a boutique if you get a chance
lastly, went past bloomingdales, only new thing I found was spicebomb, which was sort of sweet, powdery, and then suede/leather underneath. actually quite pleasant but generic IMO
