Scent/Fragrance of the Day thread - Page 676

Just tried TF Lavender Palm for the first time. (Big thanks to Rambo!) I've been looking forward to trying this for quite a while. It's a very interesting fragrance. At the top you get a strong blast of lavender, but there's also citrus. There's a lime note that's especially interesting. I don't think I'd have ever thought to blend lime and lavender, but it's very compelling. Somehow the effect is not the typical clean lavender, but something a little bit dirty. Then in the middle the scent really hits its stride when the floral notes emerge. It's a very complex blend of lavender, citrus, florals, and some other aromatic notes. This part is just amazing. Finally, the lavender recedes a lot at the base, and what's left is something very sweet.

Longevity is good, but in the later stages it definitely sits close to the skin.

Yeah, there isn't much projection on the drydown. Its subtle. I had a feeling you'd like it though. Glad it got to you safe and sound. Leave me a reference will ya!

I have this issue with almost all scents. I love them, then get overwhelmed after a day. I think that's why I wear frags so randomly. I sort of love 'em and hate 'em.

yesterday was CdG incense jalsaimar.
tonight is ormonde jayne man.

Already done! And for anyone who reads this thread, I'd just add that Rambo's got some great deals, many of them on fragrances that are not easy to find. Seriously, I can't overstate how great Rambo has been in his dealings with me.

Today. I really like it.

How the hell am I supposed to decide for a single perfume to buy? I need at least three, or 500€+.

Jasmin Rouge today. This is my first time trying this on my skin. A lot of the reviews I've read are not very positive, but I'm liking it quite a bit. There's a lot going on with this one; it's not just a straightforward jasmine. I'd say that what L'Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse is to tuberose, Jasmin Rouge is to jasmine. Jasmine is certainly the star, but it's blended with notes that give it an extra kick, including ginger and pink pepper. (It's the pink pepper that especially reminds me of Nuit de Tubereuse.) There are also some other floral notes to add sweetness and mitigate some of the indolic qualities of the jasmine. At the heart, it's got a buttery sweetness that I think comes from the ylang ylang. I think this is just as good as Lutens A La Nuit and Kilian Love and Tears, which were my benchmarks for jasmine scents.

What's a good Frederic Malle fragrance to start off with for a guy?  The few I've smelt they come across as heavy, outdated and very very feminine...

Erm, elaborate, please. I liked them all a lot (at least all I've tried which were quite a few).

Fleur de Cassie and Dans tes Bras are the 2 I have tried.  Both were very feminine.

The Vetiver Extraordinaire sounds good but given how FM is all about complexity, I can't see it being a simple and pure vetiver scent...

Vetiver Extraordinaire is excellent, probably the best vetiver I've ever tried.  Bigarade Concentree is pretty good too if you like orange, kinda the same vibe as Terre d'Hermes if you've ever smelled that, but less earthy.

The Geranium Pour Monsieur by FM is minty fresh - not heavy at all, but seems pretty seasonal (warm weather).

Yeah, those two are definitely on the feminine side. I think Dans tes Bras smells quite modern, though.

At any rate, here's what I'd recommend if you're interested in a modern-smelling masculine from Malle:

Geranium pour Monsieur. The top is minty like toothpaste, and then at the heart the geranium comes to the fore. It's a floral, but still quite masculine.
Musc Ravageur. Opinions are very much divided on this. It's a big sweet, clovey, and musky scent. I'm a big fan.
Bigarade Concentree. Bitter orange with some funky cumin that might remind you a bit of body odor.
