Who said anything about hotness being a factor here? If you met my girlfriend (present or past), "hound" would be the last word on your mind. Something else I was taught in factors of love is that people will almost always be most comfortable in a long term relationship with someone they deem at or around the same level of attractiveness as themselves. I don't exactly consider myself a looker, but I have pretty high standards.

I know he was explaining the biology of it. My issue is that nothing moves beyond this. We are not slaves to biological impulses. But no matter. For me, the discussion's over. When you roll out this as an excuse for adultery I'm out. This is the stupidest excuse: "I can't help cheating on my wife. I'm biologically programmed to." BS.

All the rational reasons for marriage are probably related to property. That being said, I suspect the irrational reasons outnumber the rational in the vast majority of cases.

You get married to get the 1st divorce out of the way

(Disclaimer: I've never been married but damn if it didn't feel like it sometimes)

Looks have nothing to do with it. The same women will chase different men for different reasons. "Hounds" was simply meant to suggest "hunters". I've edited the message to clear this up.

And yeah, I've read and observed the same thing about attractiveness. We tend to get the most attractive partner we can reasonably keep. Any more attractive and the chances they will be tempted to leave increases. Makes sense.

I wasn't rolling it out as an excuse. I was using it as an explanation. In practice, many factors enter into decision making, most of them social and not biological, and most of them perfectly legitimate considerations. A person is torn between biology and society. You can't pretend the former is "irrelevant". Both are important.

Damn Ed, you must have been some kind of prepubescent pimp. Kudos. Now what's with this growth that the doc is calling an "inherited genetic disformity?" It's like a penis, but smaller.
