I know the tv plays a big roll in this. Would I be better off buying a nice flat panel lcd at like 37" or buying a projector + projection screen for about the same price?

And would it be lame to decorate the walls with my own photography? I'm an artist.

EDIT: shit, didn't see that there was another forum section for this, sorry.

In addition to craigslist, check facebook, they now have a sales section and alot of college students sell their furniture when they graduate or move into new places.

Come on, guys. $400 for a TV is not unreasonable. You'd better check reviews though and shop around. I got an amazing 52" HDTV where I was working for $750.00, and it was new and in the box and all. The best part is, I used the stores money that they had been overpaying me for 13 weeks to buy it. For the whole quarter they were paying me $5.00 an hour extra and had no idea, due to a computer glitch. Ah, the beauty of working with 300 other folks and not standing out.

white walls, weird looking black couches, steel looking coffee/end table, black canvas squares on the walls instead of paintings/posters. Shouldn't be that tough. Just check ebay, craigslist, whatever stores are near you, garage sales, go to walmart and get canvas and paint it black yourself (throw some white paint splatter for good measure). I'm 95% serious too.
