Hi, I've been lurking for a while, but this is my first post.

I live in Manila, Philippines, and I'm looking at getting a bespoke suit done in Hong Kong. This is my first custom suit.

I'm looking at WW Chan, but unsure on fabric, I was just going to ask the tailor for fabric advice. Is that ok?

The main problem is I work Monday to Friday, and can't take any time off. So I need to do it all across several weekend trips.

1. Anyone have experience doing this? I can stay overnight, but flying in and out the same day could work too, and will save money on hotels.

2. How many trips should I plan for? I want to be efficient as possible, but the suit quality comes first.

3. I almost exclusively go open neck, no tie. Should this effect what suit I go for?

4. Over the next few months, I would like a second suit done. Which would be the better option? Get both done at once and reduce the trips needed? Or use the first suit as a learning experience for both me and the tailor?

5. I've always had problems with shirts untucking and/or looking messy. Is a higher rise the best fit for this or something else? I'm pretty big, medium fat, but very long torso.

6. Tailored shirts... Combine with this trip with chan. Or go with AC? How many fittings are needed for a shirt?

You will need to go three times if the finished garment is sent on, four if not.

By all means get the shorts at the same time, Ascot Chiang is better than Chan for shirts, you can meet them at the Peninsular Hotel so not far from Chan.

Open neck has little to do with suit but wear a proper short and shoes not tee short and trainers for fittings. Preferable to get the first suit by itself then muiltiple suits later although with fittings you may well be OK.

Thanks. So that's 3 fittings? Could each one be done within a day trip?

Really appreciate the advice. I know queries like this are a dime a dozen

I'm in the same situation (also live in Manila) and have gone to HK (also sometimes to WWC) on day trips for fittings for 4 or 5 suits over the past 7 years. Each fitting only took around 30-45mins, so rather a long day incl. travel to and fro, for a relatively short amount of time at the tailor, but it's worked well.

Any fashion tips for manila? Its seems a bit of a sartorial wasteland. Especially for someone like me who is taller.

I like the shirts from Hugo Boss but they are more expensive than australia/uk. Any other choices?

C has a shop in Manilla. Recommend them over Chan for shirts. AC can also do your suit at the same level as Chan.... might be worth looking into as it could save you time and $$$

There's a manila thread on here... AC here (assuming it's the one in makati shang) got quite a bad review in that thread
