Video play back - XBox or ps3 - Page 4

I'm an ex-360 owner. After the hardware issues, a DVD player that sounded like a helicopter, and dissapointments with exclusives (Gears of War was too buggy, and Halo 3 was flat out worse than Halo 2), I decided to get rid of it. The PS3 is lacking exclusives currently, but I love GT5, and MGS4 will be out this summer. Other than that, I usually play cross platform games. And the Blu Ray was the kicker. I love being able to rent BR movies and enjoying the higher video and audio quality.

The problem with crossplatform games is that the X360 version is almost always the better version. In the case of GTA4, it's been noted several places that the PS3 version looks a little better (explosions are better, etc.) and there are shorter loading times, but it's a rare exception. Having played both, I prefer the PS3 version, but would like the benefits of Xbox Live as well. That said, PS3 has Metal Gear Solid, and that is the single swaying factor for me. Plus, the PS3 version of Soul Calibur 4 has Darth Vader. X360 is Yoda

I've had a 360, let it go (it RROD after 3 months of ownership. WTF). I'll probably get a PS3 in the near future, as I would like a bluray (lol HDDVD) player along with some gaming goodness.

I'm a huge Metal Gear fan, so that's a big plus for me too. I wished they didn't rush the PS3 to market before it was ready for prime-time. I'm glad to see it coming into it's own though.

According to Gizmodo, you can expect a $50 price drop on the PS3 in 5-6 months. Also, there is a newer, slimmer and cooler running PS3 coming soon. The Cell Processor is moving to 45nm. The XBox will probably get a refresh too, since IBM makes both Cell processors.

In that vein, the PS3 is the most practical, bang-for-the-buck system. All the 360 can do is play games... I'm past all that.
Maybe I'm incorrect, or have never had the opportunity to truly play with the PS3. ....but aside from High Def DVD playback, doesn't the Xbox offer the best experience as a media center extender.

My biggest fault for the 360, is the extremely loud disc drive.

Yeah, if you have a media center, the 360 has a major plus on its side. I don't, so the RROD has left a permanent bad taste in my mouth. That, and LittleBigPlanet looks incredible.

True,

While their customer support regarding the RROD has been good, the fact it's so widespread, might leave a sour taste in anyones mouth.

....they really need to get to the root of the problem.

Its just a poorly designed machine made from cheap parts, designed and implimented in a hurry to beat the other consoles to market. I sold my 360 a month and a half or so ago, and to be honest, I don't even really miss it. I'm just going to save up for my PS3 like I wanted to in the first place.

Truth. It's not some unforseen consequence that the X360 breaks down and dies - its guts are powerful, but they've been thrown together and it breaks for any number of reasons. MS is really good about the warranties, being that they extended it, but the warranties apply to RRODs only. There are lots of other issues that have come up, especially since people have been playing their systems like crazy since the release of GTA4. I think what's really funny is that people are wrapping their X360s in towels to cause it to overheat and RROD so they can get a free replacement when they have disc read errors, etc.. From what I've read, the RROD comes from the chip de-soldering from the main board and it's quite easy to purposefully create.

I've been watching a couple of movies bought in the sales on my ps3 - '300' and 'Immortal beloved'. The picture is great and the extras are good, the fan does get a bit noisy at times though.

Your volume isn't high enough

But on a serious note, how far away is your console from where you sit? Mine PS3 is about 10 ft away, and can only hear it humming when the fan kicks in and there is little content coming from the speakers.

Yup, it's when the fan kicks in. My flat is quite small and so the Ps3 is probably about 6ft about. I place it vertically, to save space and I think it looks cooler
