Greetings, this is my biggest purchase on a clothing item ever. Could I ask some opinion on it? Any guess how old the jacket is? The tag says model 89B12. FYI some of the bastings has been removed but I don't see any alteration been done. Many thanks, Ferry http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....3461457

Sorry that I can't help with your questions, but what a beautiful jacket. A fine investment--well done.

The pictures are kinda crappy, but I'd guess at least later than 1997, because that's when Kiton started using the diamante blue fabric copiously. Not sure when NM started carrying Kiton, I think you made a wise purchase.

Helluva deal. Let us know how you like it when it arrives.

Well, I hope I did make a decent purchase. I didn't expect it could be as old as circa 1997 though, I thought it's 2-3 years max. I emailed Kiton (seems to be going to Ciro Paone's email) to inquire more about it and still waiting for an answer. I received the suit yesterday and the fit seems ok except for a few regular alteration that I would need to do for almost every suits that I tried on. One thing that I'm wondering, the tag also says Drop: R7, and hence I suspect it was part of a suit instead of just a blazer. How much exactly are Kiton Diamante Blu suits selling these days? The price tag on mine says $2695.

The Diamante suits are 4k and up.

The drop on the jacket can relate to the waist of the jacket. For example, Belvest blazers have a drop listed. However, the Kiton sport coats I've seen do not list the drop. I was wondering whether this jacket might have been from a suit when I looked at your link; it really p*sses me off when I see e-bay sellers listing suit jackets as sport coats. Fortunately for you, a solid blue sport coat works well.

Good point--a suit jacket is NOT a sportscoat.

Shoefan, actually it's a black jacket. I might be stoned for saying this, but I frequently wear suit jacket with contrasting trousers.

For years, my standard blue blazer was a navy suit jacket for which the pants had since worn out. Why not? As long as the jacket's features do not give it away as a suit jacket, I don't see any problem in doing so.

Usually suit jackets don't have a strong enough fabric to let it stand on it's own. However, there are some suit jackets that look fine as a sportcoat, though there are very few of them.

i've got several kiton sportcoats i got direct from the store and they have a drop listed, so i bet you received a jacket rather than a suit jacket.

My experience is the same as discostu004 - I have had a ton of Kiton sportcoats with the drop listed. About the suit jacket/sportcoat thing - with the exception of their casual, unstructured sportcoats, there is generally no difference between the cut of a Kiton suit jacket and a Kiton sportcoat. So it doesn't matter. If it is a solid black jacket you are fine. If you are really stressed about somebody thinking it is a suit coat, then change the buttons. I prefer dark horn buttons on my blazers so I would leave it alone.
