Suede shoes bled

Long story short: I purchased a pair of Puma Speed Cats in Black / White suede, #30040603. The black color bled onto the white (shoes did not get wet and were only worn on three occasions). Thus, I returned the shoes guessing it was a manufactures defect. I then purchased the exact pair of shoes from another company (the company I originally purchased the first pair from ran out of my size) and the exact same thing happened. I assume that the shoes bled because of my sweat, or maybe it was a freak coincidence (unlikely). So, I called Puma's toll-free number and they said that a suede protector would prevent the bleeding from occurring. So, what should I do in the future? If I purchase another pair of Speed Cats, will suede protector prevent the problem? Ideas? Thoughts? Help. Jon.

Can no one help me out? Jon.

Some suede seems to do that--I've got some pants with marks inside the cuffs from where the instep of suede shoes seems to have rubbed off, with no water involved. I think it is a result of inferior dyeing processes. I don't know that a protectant will prevent it, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

I would try soaking them in vinegar and then thoroughly rinsing them in water. This should bleed out all the bleedable color and leave them clean. If it doesn't work, return them.

Thanks for the posts. I think in the end I will return them and cut my loses. It is very probable that the dyeing processes used for this shoe is inferior to that of other Puma shoes, since I have other speed cats that have never bled. There is a new version of the same shoe, but with the Puma stripe in white leather instead of suede, I might give those a whirl, at least I can easily clean any color bleeding off of leather a lot easier than I can off of suede.
