Getting tired as f*ck when walking

Okay, so this is weird. The past few weeks I've found that my legs get tired very easily when I walk moderate distances. But the thing is, I can do cardio at the gym, or play tennis for a decent amount of time (~30-45 mins cardio, 1-2hrs tennis) without feeling much discomfort. The only thing I can think of is that I've started going to work where I have to bus every morning, and oftentimes I end up standing almost the entire way. Could it be my shoes? Or does it just come with OLD AGE (I'm 21 btw )?

Have you been working out at a different time of day? Sometimes, if you get sore while sleeping, you don't even notice it. Working out at a different time can make you sore during the day.

I cycle 200-300 miles per week, run 3-4 miles 4 days a week and my legs still get tired while walking up 3 flights of stairs.

I don't cycle or run as much as you do, but stairs still take the wind out of me.

You should ride a longboard/mini longboard to work or wherever you're going. They are NOT like skateboards, and a bunch of them look pretty good.

That never happens to me. If I don't bike (because it's insanely hot and humid now in SoFLA) I run on the treadmill for 20 minutes at 7.5 mph, at least once a week.

But, I ran up the entire staircase of the St. Peter's, both up and down with no problems. I also ran down the snake path at Masada and wasn't out of breath, my legs were killing me for a bout 7 days after, but during the insane run down I was a-ok.

I hate the snake path at Masada. I've been there twice, once walking down it in the heat of the day, and the second time going up at 3 a.m. Not fun.

Ha, I did the hike UP and DOWN the snake path in full combat gear (vest, water jugs, rifle, etc)... that was rough, but fun. You just keep your head down and don't stop moving. Oh, and apparently seeing sunrise was real important, so we got there for about 4:30-5:00 am... Fun Fun.

Oddities of life. Ran eight miles on treadmill this morning, no prob. Walked from Union Square up to my hotel on Nob Hill, felt like I was going to have a frikkin' heart attack. Go figure.

Sometimes when you are relativley fit, your muscles have memory and long distance walking may not be in their repertoire so they have "remember" how to do it efficiently and it tires them. I know this sounds silly, but I used to ride 500km a week on my bike and would get tired walking to 2 blocks to get a newspaper and winded climbing stairs because my body was not efficient at those motions, yet my resting heart rate was in the 40's and I had very low body fat.

Now I walk alot, and it is no problem, and because of years of muscle memory I can hop on my bike and ride without too much trouble, except getting winded.

It is just your body adapting to new motions

Maybe you guys get tired walking because you are using different muscles (than your other excercises).

Simple solution, walk more. I personally can't run, my gait is all screwed up for bicycleing and I just never got the hang of running, I'm told I look wierd as hell when I try too. but thanks to years of walking to school and still not having a drivers liscens I can walk for hours and hours up and down hills with out getting winded, I do however get hot and sticky because of the caloric output required for climbing hills.
