Buying Japanese Selvedge denim (by the yard) - Page 4
Sorry, that would depend on the quality of the cloth, seen some as cheap as 300 yen a meter, is was shit, but it was 300 Y a meter. right up to £65 a meter, but that was a 40 year old double harvest, hank dip dyed with a long fibre zim cotton, hand loomed, gold edge...beautiful cloth but still £65 on a 28' loom, lucky to get one pair of jeans out of 3.5 m, I know there are some places that will be more, but I'll not look at them, personally once your past £45 per meter, it's too much. the cloth allone on a pair of trousers will be £135+ then the production costs and the trims, add in your margin (what margin!!!) whole sale would be, ballpark, £350 makes Retail starting from £995 and going up...QUICK
question is, what are you making?
There is a guy in the US that sells hand loomed old cloths, short length, ends, but you'd do better looking at organic canvas, takes the colour better and give a better movement.
How does Cone mills usually go about selecting who they sell fabric to? Are small jean companies sourcing the material from someone else besides the mills?
You can go through a fabric agent, it a two sided deal, better choice and they would work with a few mills, no minimums, you can get cuts at at price, if there is a problem with the fabric they are more likely to swap out the fabrics, plus can work terms with them (an area where they can be more open) is the plus side. on the negitive, higher price.
You can use a ends dealer, discounted production ends, like most production mills will run out the loom to finish up the yarns. these guy are CHEAP, but no returns, no terms and very little chance of getting a second go with the fabrics. if the cloth you get is not perfect, your stuck with it.
For cut lengths i.e. 1metre+
Selvedge: Japanese, Italian, American & Duck Canvas, Hickory stripe etc. etc.

Does anyone have a longer list of denim resellers or jobbers who sell Cone selvage denim? Am looking to buy a variety to design with. Already checked out taylor tailor, premium denim outlet, and pacific blue denim, but looking for more variety & quantities. If there are any jobbers out there, please contact me.
First post here... hello everybody!
http://pacificbluedenims.com/ is a reliable seller and provides a good service.
I´ve dealt with them a few times for my clothing stuff. The reply fast to your answers (even on weekends) and ship quickly.
Normally they charge an extra 25 USD cutting fee for orders under 100 yards.
What exactly are you looking for in raw denim terms?
I've ordered fabric swatches from pacific blue denims and they are legit. Fabric was exactly as pictures. They def have plenty of selvedge in that weight. Not sure if they have waxed stuff but u can check the website.
