5x5 Workout: Simple, but effective in slimming down?

I'm 6'0, 160 lbs. I'm certainly a skinny looking guy, but yet I don't understand why I have a gut. I've done all the obvious things--cut soda and junk food, started running for 30 min a day, got a job where I walk most of the day, eat less and more frequently, etc. I've lost about 10 lbs, but I think a lot of it is in muscle, because my gut hasn't decreased at all.

So I was thinking that if I add lifting in addition to a slightly decreased amount of cardio, I'll lose the gut and "fill out" a little bit.

At home, I have a squat rack, a barbell, a bench, and adjustable dumbbells. A 5x5 program is nice because it's fairly simple and seems to build strength easily. Not to mention it seems completely fool-proof (which is good for me, because I'm never sure that I'm doing a good program).

So, will this program combined with cardio and good eating help me lose my gut?

I can't imagine why not.

Do you eat late at night? I'm 5'11" and I was told that I was too thin at 175 lbs, but I'm muscular, so if you can add bulk and not gain too much wieght you will look as thin as you want to.

Absolutely.

first post up what your diet is like now.
include how many times you eat and give a general run down of what you eat with every meal.

then mention the types of exercises your familiar with. I can even recommend and build a full body routine done 3 times a week around your cardio.

After you've tried everything else, consider your stress and (deductively) cortisol levels. Problems with stress, the adrenal gland, and cortisol levels can be blamed for some stubborn stomach fat.

Thanks for the help guys. Here's my current (approximate) diet: Breakfast: 2 Poached Eggs, 2 Pieces of Toast, Water Mid-Morning Snack: Banana Lunch: Ham/Cheese Sandwhich, Pretzels, Gatorade Afternoon Snack: Penut Butter Crackers Dinner: Whatever's for dinner (probably my downfall)--Could be anything from Hamburgers to Fettuccine Alfredo. As far as a workout, I'm pretty much in shape (besides the gut) and ready for just about anything. I do have only free weights w/ a squat rack, bench and barbell though, remember. That's pretty much it. Thanks for any future help with a workout routine (if different than a 5x5)

well im not sure what your exercise routine is atm, but unfortunately your diet is very lacking . gatorade as fluids for lunch? come on bud.

contact me via msn ..we'll throw down your diet and create an exercise routine which will give you results . however, where you go from there is up to you.
you have to put in the work by eating right and exercising. im dead certain if you fix both things you'll be healthier with a better body

Doesn't matter really. His current diet is severely lacking in protein and high on simple carbs.

Man, my diet is that bad? I thought it was quite good for a high school student. Man, college is going to be really rough if you this diet is supposedly bad...

Any I can't believe that you can be bloated from being thin. Are you serious?

I appreciate the advice though, guys.

On average, maybe not. For someone who cares about their diet and is trying to lose weight, yes.
