So, I'll be in New Orleans with some friends next week, and I'm just wondering what to pack? What kind of clothes will i want to bring, and what should stay at home?

Thanks!

Are you in a relationship? Is it for a bachelor party? Where will you be? All relevant questions.*

*I live in New Orleans.

No and no. Just going on a road trip... We'll probably be doing most of the touristy type stuff--explore the city during the day French Quarter/ Bourbon St.

I'm just concerned about being hot as hell! Like are a lightweight pair of jeans still out of the question?

Honestly, if you are walking around all day--yes. I would wear shorts, and something that you are not worried about sweating through on the top. You WILL sweat. And you WILL be hot. I would dress accordingly. Where are you from (so I can gauge how accustomed you are to the heat)?

The French Quarter especially is really, really, really hot.

Also, if I may, two areas really, really worth exploring are ~3000 block of Magazine Street, and I would recommend taking the trolley uptown, down St. Charles to Audobon Park. A really pretty area, and you will see more of what makes New Orleans such a great city.

If you plan on eating anywhere special, make reservations as early as possible. Restaurants book up FAST. And if you have any questions, just let me know.

Great! Thanks for the info. I'm from Wisconsin, so I never really deal with extreme heat and humidity. Plus, I sweat easily to begin with...

As for dining, the only place I can remember off the top of my head is Dooky Chase-- any good? However, I'll let them know that we'll want to get reservations early on. Any other places you'd recommend for breakfast, lunch, or dinner? It would just be nice to have some options, just in case things don't go exactly as planned.

Magazine St looks really great. I'll definitely add that to the to-do list.

Thanks again for all the info!

Eh, I would probably stay away from Dooky Chase--I think they have a location in the airport!

Off the top of my head, here are some suggestions:

Inexpensive:

Mahony's Po-Boys--maybe not the best, but heck, if you are in New Orleans, you have to get a po-boy, and this place is a staple
Dat Dog--hotdog joint, inexpensive, a "new" New Orleans staple
Company Burger--recently ranked like the 4th best burger in the US, really good, a bit hipstery
Rum House--on Magazine street, makes "fancy" Caribbean tacos, the rum flights are fun, it is on magazine street, fun place to drink, near the bull dog, another nice place to drink
Camellia Grill on St. Charles--not the best food, but it is an institution

Moderately Expensive:

Atchafalaya--fun place, good brunch, make reservations
NOLA--not my favorite, but it is an Emeril restaurant, good Louisiana cooking, fun ambiance
Le Petite Grocery--cool place, but a bit too dateish probably
Drago's--go for the charbroiled oysters, and then leave; food is not that good, charbroiled oysters are awesome
Sobou--cajun / creole, good drinks, cool atmosphere

Expensive:

Pesche/Cochon--cool conservative business dress restaurants, the better of the Donald Link restaurants
August--the best of the Besh restaurants, far and away
Commander's Palace--old school New Orleans fare, I would recommend on the experience alone

Some other good expensive restaurants, but I get the feel, with this being a road-trip, that y'all are probably more interested in the "experience" restaurants.

Do not wear jeans. You will be sweltering in jeans -- you will melt.
