I have several types of gray pants.

 

I especially like them with walnut oxfords and match walnut belt with a slim fit Brooks Brothers oxford.

 

Add a sport coat and you'll be quite fly in my opinion.

It is fairly common in the US and is actually the uniform of choice for federal CSO's (courtroom security officers).

The references amuse me as well. I would think most folks not wearing walkie talkies with ear pieces and plastic name placards are safe from being mistaken for building security.

Having said that, I knew of a CSO who was a retired Marine and was always turned out just so. He looked better than several of the attorneys.
