Can you recommend a restaurant in NYC for me?

My family will be going to NYC this weekend. The oldest on this trip will be 86, the youngest is 20 years old. I would appreciate it if you can recommend some nice restaurants in manhattan for us. Italian is preferred since the granny is italian.

not weird-fusion food or ethnic food please. The 86 year old is kinda conservative in what she eats. Thank you.

Basically. But, it’s still amazingly good. I’ve only been there once, but I’m aching to go back again. Preferably lunch next time in order to avoid some of the cost associated with the dinner menu (I had veal last time which cost about 6 or 8 times more than it would at my local Italian restaurant here in Boca).

It is fine if you want old-fashioned Americanized Italian food. Other than that, there is not much to recommend it. It is, in no way, representative of good modern American Italian cuisine, nor does it approximate real Italian food in the least. A good rule of thumb with Italian food is that if they serve Caesar Salad, it is not the right place. Caesar Salad is a Mexican dish, not an Italian one. Il Mulino serves Caesar salad.

The last couple times I've been in nyc i just wanderd around little italy. Around lunch or early afternoon you'll find quite a number of waiters outside trying to get customers into the restaurants. I don't remember the names of the places I visited, but I was quite happy with my meals. I went to another one around times square the had the absolute best bruschetta i've ever had at a restaurant, although I can't remember the name. It was two floors and the second story was in a U configuration around the first one. It was mid-priced and very nicely decorated. Maybe a new yorker would know the name. The hostess was hot. :P

Anyway, if you walk around in NY it's hard to go wrong. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal there.

I hate to quibble, but Caesar Salad is no more a Mexican dish than it is Italian.
It's pretty commonly attributed to Caesar Cardini, an Italian-American immigrant who opened his restaurant in Tijuana to circumvent prohibition. There are claims that he stole the recipe from his brother (Italian), business partner(Italian), friend's mother (Italian). No Mexicans were harmed in the making of the Caesar salad.

True, and I like Caesar salad myself, but if somebody asked me what was a really good Italian restaurant in a big city I would think twice before suggesting one that served a World Famous Caesar Salad. A tough reservation does not a great restaurant make.
