It has been my experience over the last several years that boots from nearly all manufacturers from which I have purchased have provided boots that I was unsatisfied with in one way or another. Some styles were fine, but both Alden and Red Wing sent well known models that didn't work out well for me.
I purchased and walked several miles in Alden Indy boots (in two sizes) -- the steel shank bit into the bottom of my foot in both and proved very uncomfortable. I no longer own that boot.
I tried two different pairs of Red Wing Beckmans. Nice looking boot with a fine sole, but one size was too big (I sized down 1/2 size from normal) and I figured a full size down would work out great. No so. After walking several miles, my right foot became excrutiatingly sore on the tip of a bone on my right foot and I could no longer wear the boot. As a matter of fact, the pain was so bad that I could wear virtually no boots at all for several weeks. In no way did I want to wear the Beckman again -- it went on Ebay.
By and large, once I settled on the right size, Wolverine 1000K boots have worked out pretty well. I like the ruggedness they offer, but don't particularly like the smooth leather sole. I will simply replace it with another when the time comes, so it's not a big deal. In terms of quality I am happy with it.
Overall, the Wolverine 1000K has proven pretty good for my feet. It beat out the Alden Indy and Red Wing Beckman, for me. This is not the case for everyone, for I have read numerous comments from people stating how comfortable their feet feel in Alden Indy's. I wish that was the case when I wore them. It was Wolverine 1000K that came through ...
