What shoes with Jeans and Shorts

Thread Starter

Hello everyone, first post here. I have been searching everywhere for guideance and decided to post my own specific question.

I travel a lot for work so I'd like to only have a single pair of shoes. For my work, I walk and stand a lot (all day). Usually, I am wearing tailored jeans and a button up (tucked in) shirt. Then, after work I like to walk around in shorts and a tshirt with my camera (sometimes I work in shorts, but rarely). The most formal I ever dress in the same jeans and shirt, with a tie and sport coat.

So I am looking for one shoe to rule them all. Since I travel a lot, I don't want to take multiple pairs of shoes. Any guidance out there for me? I want to look slightly decent (I don't have any strict requirements on that) but I also don't want to look like an idiot in shorts. Currently I where 2 toned faux leather street shoes by Sketchers, but they're worn out (didn't take long) and were never great for walking and standing anyway.

Thanks for the help!

I used to be in the same position and have a similar wardrobe. And I would never check in baggage, it all had to fit in a carry on. I managed to get it down to two pairs for travelling - with one pair being some super ugly New Balance minimus things that would fold flat into my bag so I could use hotel gyms.

I always wore jeans and a Thom Browne oxford shirt with a pair of well made, dark brown, waxy moccasins. Brown shoes work well with dark denim, particularly if you're sticking to classic, plain oxford button downs up top (chambray, white, pale grey). Add in a lightweight navy jacket and you're set.

I reckon something like these would be spot on:

They would work well with jeans and also with shorts, but you'd need to wear some decent invisible socks if you wear them with shorts. Something like these:

Hope that helps.

Wonder where I can get similar shoes in my teeny foot size - my current Sketchers aren't holding out too well, and once I've got to the end of my clothes kopping list for 2014, will be looking at my footwear - I've ordered a new pair of custom boots but they won't be ready for ages!smile.gif

Frankly I'd never recommend wearing the same shoe day in day out unless you absolutely have too. However for the style your looking for I would try one of the following and they all make a shoe in the same style as recommended previously.

I'd recommend a pair of Rancourts. They have a number of Ready Made, Made to Order, and Custom options. They have pairs like the ones the other person recommended. You'll pay a bit more but they're definitely a great quality shoe. From time to time you can find them on sale at places such as Brook Brothers and Club Monaco.

The other two I'd recommend would be Qouddy and Oakstreet Bootmakers. Same quality and same kind of shoe at about the same price however you just won't have as many options.

It's true you shouldn't wear the same shoes 24/24

If I'm at home - it's Fitflops or occasionally La Senza slippers (although the slippers I hardly wear as there's no support)

Casually - Sketchers

Formally - my bespoke Gaziano and Girling Oxford brogues or John Lobb ankle boots

Good luck in your search - but you might have to compromise and have 2 pairs - I've got 9 pairs of footwear (including the slippers! And the boots I have on order as well), which should keep me going for a while:)
