Glad we have you here to clarify...

When eating at restaurants my friend’s uncle would place five one dollar bills on the edge of the table. Whenever the server would do something not to his liking he would glare at the server while removing one of the bills, whatever was left was the tip.

I have eaten in Mexican restaurants only 6-8 times in my life. I do not like it. It is too gloppy for me.
Actually, although I am frequently dismayed by behavior by servers, I have very rarely complained to them. The few times I did it was when the objectionable behavior just would not stop and went on and on and on. Last time I did it a waiter had called my wife and me "you guys" 5 times in 90 seconds. I just said that I did not enjoy being called "you guys" over and over. Another time I spoke out was when a waiter started "explaining" dishes on the menu. After 5-6 explanations, including explaining what a shrimp cocktail was, I had had enough and asked him to stop. It seemed to me that he just liked to talk and rambled on and on.
I usually just say nothing to them and wait to post it here to torture "you guys."

Yeah man, WTF is up with "you guys." Everybody in the civilized world knows that the proper way to refer to people in the plural is "ya'll"

That's how it's said 'round these parts. Especially those places with the fancy table-sized napkins.

There was a time when servants did not speak to the diners. Both diner and servant knew the rules of manners and acted through signals.

Now if the waitress knew the signal for when you are finished (and you knew it) there should have been no need for converstion or confusion!

Andy, they haven't been "servants" since the civil war. Get with the times, man.
