Car totaled, need new 1, BMW vs Lexus

My car has been totaled due to damage sustained from last week's flooding. I narrow my choice down to BMW & Lexus. My heart says BMW but my brain says Lexus.

I keep hearing ravings about Lexus' reliability. Can anyone who owns or owned one tell me just how reliable and trouble-free Lexus is? How about the handling? Comfort?.... etc. The stylings are kind of bland, but I am willing to overlook.

What is your price range?

Jon.

VR,

I'm on my second Lexus ES. Absolutely great cars. No service issues in combined 8 years of ownership. Dealer service is the best of any car mfr. Best audio system except perhaps the Acura ELS. The air conditioning has very high air flow which is important here in Atlanta.

What I might suggest is an IS350 if it has enough room for you. It's as good at handling as a BMW and has Lexus reliability/service/luxury. Plus paddle shifters.

I hope that helps.

My range is quite wide, I am thinking of 3, 5, 7, IS, ES, GS or LS, basically all 4-door sedan. New or CPO. But no SUV.

What kind of mileage do you have on your 2 Lexus? I hate car shopping so much that I want to keep my next one as long as possible. I like the new IS styling, the old one is kind of blah.

I'm also on my second Lexus, the RX 350 and I couldn't be happier. While there are undoubtedly sportier, faster options, the Lexus is wonderfully designed , comfortable as hell and has everything that you could want and nothing superfluous!

VR...I'd be happy to bring into NYC for you to check out and take a spin.

And then after the drive you two can go shoe shopping, take pics, and post them back here.

I had 60K on first one and 51K on my current car. There is actually a wall at my dealer of several dozen cars that have hit a million miles.

P.S. Due up in a few months is an IS500 with very large engine, in case you need extra power.

BMW styling is just awful these days. That brand has gone to shit IMO. The 3 series looks nice, but I'd still feel badly about indirectly supporting the rubbish that they are churning out of their factories these days. By contrast, Lexus is on the cutting edge of Hybrid technology, looks very subtle, but not staid... Lexus would be my choice.

I love the Lexus IS, it's in my top list to replace my current car when it dies. Pretty much all of them are tanks and last forever which is my cup o tea. The only one that I overlook is the ES, I just can't get over the design of it and I like something smaller with a little more edge and better handling.

Do you have the new IS? What are the maintenance costs? Are you able to go to Toyota dealerships for general maintenance since there are more of them?

BMW.
I drove both IS350 and BMW 335i.

The 335i is a hell lot better to drive.
Is350 feels like a corolla with luxery interior. Not worth the money in my opinion.

Get the BMW 335i Coupe or 4 door depending on your taste. The bmw is a much better drive. Hell I drive bmw all my life, I can't find a better feeling car than a bmw. The price for the bmw is just right and the driving experence is worth every penny. Even the 323i bmw is amazing, it's a cornering beast. I'll tell yah that.

If you want to see pictures let me know. I'll post some here.

Drive both brands, and one will speak to you.

Personally, I think Lexus styling is derivative and me-too.
