"...the summer's most unfortunate fad"

People are so gullible. If the fashion mags told us that porterhouse steaks were the next big thing in casual footwear, I bet consumers would be knocking each other down in supermarkets to buy the biggest t-bones they could find to strap to their feet.

I hate those stupid looking shoes. Everything about crocs looks cheap and lame. Completely plastic and rubber shoes in one solid color, just what everyone wants. Whats next? Big red clown noses as a form of sun protection?

Funny that the "article" doesn't at all mention that the real reason these things have sold so well is that they're damn comfortable.

While I totally hear you guys about bitching out people jumping on the fad band-wagon... In Mario's defence as a particular case I can tell you that for as long as I've seen him on shows (a few years) he's always worn clogs, and as far as I know it's pretty common for chefs to do. It's more practical then for fashion reasons for them. If you spill something boiling you can quickly get off your shoes...
although, yeah, I also hear they're damn comfortable and I'm thinking of getting a pair... Meh, I'll worry about fashion hell when the time comes

Yeah.

But, crocs are not chef clogs. Some chef clogs are steel toed, and all definitely do not have holes on top where hot oil or soup might go through. And chef clogs do not have heel straps, too for the reason that you can't take them off easily with straps in them.

As for worrying "about fashion hell when the time comes", this IS the style forum, and our superficiality

is what brings us together.

But the genius (GENIUS I say!) of crocs is that the heel strap can be folded over to the front so they can be worn strapless.

How can hard(ish) plastic or rubber feel comfortable on skin? Of course, I could try but I've decided to never ever wear those things..

Ok, good point about fashion hell, you got me there.

Re: Crocs aren't for the kitchen... yes, I just meant taht the guy probably wears clogs all day so he's more comfortable in that type of thing, not that he'd actually be wearing them in the kitchen.

Exactly. Who would buy them for the looks? 99% of shoes designed specifically for comfort are FUGLY. They're so popular because they are cheap as hell and comfortable (from what I've been told, I have never tried any on), and also because they are unfortunately trendy.

My wife wears them to work, where she is on her feet most of the day, anywhere from 12-24 hours. She could give a damn about looks when faced with that.
