Discount borrelli in nyc at century 21

Nice selection of Borrelli items at Century 21. Dress and sport shirts priced at $99 (from $350), sportcoats (at least 15 of them) marked at $800 (down from $3500), lots of very nice sweaters and knits. Pants were in the low $200s.

Also, they're blowing out their Lorenzini shirts. I paid $21 for a very nice herringbone grey dress shirt (from $325, thank you). Also picked up a Zegna Napoli Couture shirt for $80.

Wow, those are great prices. Regarding Lorenzini, I'm always surprised by how little bidding activity there is on EBay for their shirts. Much less interest in Lorenzini than Borrelli, for example, even though at full retail Lorenzini isn't that much cheaper than Borrelli.

This isn't used stuff, is it? $21 for a Lorenzini shirt is obscene.

Nope, they're indeed brand new. In the interest of fair disclosure, my $21 shirt was mispriced---most of the Lorenzini shirts are priced at $39.95. Obviously a good deal still.

They have many Zegna shirts as well, marked down from $195 to $80. I picked up my Napoli Couture for the same price, which I still think is a pretty good deal.

That's certainly true; although Lorenzini shirts aren't on the same level as Borrelli, imo.

Century 21

I have not been to Century 21, but have been to Marshall's. How do the two compare? And are there and Century 21s outside NYC area?

Century 21 is more like a Filene's Basement. Same concept as Marshalls, but with more high-end stuff (I believe C21 also has lower-level stuff like Polo RL, Nautica, Kenneth Cole, etc.). Previous-season stuff at good prices. Even better when the already reduced prices go on clearance.

Marshalls is nowhere close to C21. Nowhere close.

I haven't been to NY in several years, and C21 is one of the things I miss the most. I find good stuff at Loehmanns in LA sometimes, but rarely find anything really great; I never find anything great at Marshalls. OTOH, I have always found something worthwhile at C21.

Do you think the othe Century 21 stores will have similar merchandise, or is the Manhattan one the best?

I don't know Century 21 is now, but when I used to visit New York in the mid-90s, it was ridiculous. Armani/Gucci/whatever ties for $8; Versace jeans for $39; Versace Couture shirts for $79. The last two times I went to New York the Manhattan Century 21 was closed due to 9/11, but I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Prices like those make you wonder how little C21 and similar stores actually pay for that stuff. I'd love to have a contract like that, for resale. Of course, if that happened, I'd have more things in my closet than I could ever wear.

They usually pay a per piece price on lets say 10 thousand pieces of any particular brand (could be socks, could be blazers) and it all averages out, based on how many higher priced items they have. On cheaper goods Jobbers pay by the pound. We once had an opportunity to act as middlemen on a deal like that and unfortunatley didnt have the money to get involved. Would have been pretty penny immediate profit. Such is life. JJF
