Hello,

My name is Will and I am just getting into fragrances. I like how there are so many different kinds and you can really use them to express yourself and be unique. However, there are so many different ones! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to start learning about this stuff and trying stuff?

Thanks,

Will

Welcome to SF! One thing you can do is check out the Scent of the Day thread. There's lots of good discussion there; if you go back a way and read everything, you'll get a pretty good introduction to the world of fragrances. The basenotes website is also a good resource.

As for trying things, there are two good ways to go about it. One is just to go to high end retailers and try stuff. Or if you don't like doing that, you can buy small samples at surrendertochance.com or theperfumedcourt.com. (There are some others as well, but those are the ones I always use.) You can buy individual fragrances, but they also offer sampler packs based on different categories of fragrances or different notes.

Also, if you have specific questions about fragrances, or categories of fragrances, post them in Scent of the Day. There are a lot of really knowledgeable people there, and they're good about responding.
