When people talk about Rick Owens leathers, are the Made in Moldavia SF approved, or something to avoid? Unfortunately, I see quite a few ROs are manufactured there, whereas I'd assume others should be made in Italy.

Quick question about Rick blazers... (I own a Stooges leather jacket, but besides that own no other Rick Owens.)

Is there a casual blazer that you guys could recommend that would look cool to dress up a pretty basic jeans / t-shirt look? I'm trying to hit the balance between "looks more interesting than a regular blazer" and "dear lord is he from the future?" smile.gif

the recent mollino i bought from mr porter with a retail of $3300 was made in moldova

"leather cut and treated in italy, sewn in moldova, made in moldova"

the sewing looks pretty good, jacketi is pretty much skintight and no seams have popped.

I honestly think the Made In Moldova products are far, far more substantial and way better crafted than their italian counterparts. I know it's hard to wrap ones head around, but I truly think this is another one of Rick's Trolling / Rick Rolling things. All of the Italian Jackets i've handled in the last 2 years have been mostly junk. Most blistered leather and really intricate products have been Made In Moldova. I also think maybe Italy has been harder on manufacturers in altering leather product standards due to Peta and other leather and fur laws and practices (Remember, Rick got his start in Fur and Leather), and in Moldova, they are probably much more lenient on leather laws. Lastly, I've heard Owencorps has spent quite a bit of money and time training the artisans in Moldova. Unfortunately he has not commented on this, but I have a feeling based on the outstanding quality that this is one of his clever ways of seeing if anyone can actually tell the difference.

All that said the leather from Crust continues to live up to the hype. I just want an oiled calf intarsia to show up somewhere...

Where have you heard this? Rick stuff is mass produced by laborers in a factory, not "artisans." Moldova has atrocious labor laws. There's some great posts by Geoffrry b small on this in the Rick thread over on SZ
