lolwut?!? happy.gif I did live there (Taipei) for years, but nope. Although I've posted plenty of pix, it's not the first time I've been assumed to be Asian… not sure why. I do a lot of Asian shit tho!

haha that's true … fair enough. My girlfriend is Taiwanese, however, she's lived in CA longer than I have. Someone else thought I was Filipino because I study kali.

Anyway back to beer… RG is really quite good and not just one of these overnight pop-up breweries. According to my friend they've posted the fastest 2-year growth of any brewery in recent times … but he is part of the marketing department so who knows.

It's from Cincinnati, OH so I have no idea what the availability or distribution is, but if you're ever in that part of the country I would certainly recommend checking it out.

Kasteel 2007 - Super smooth and so sweet still with decent carbonation - I cannot imagine a beer with more evolution potential. A new one of these is just like malt extract and booze to me yet put a few years on it and blows Gouden Carolus Blauw out of the water.

I currently have 5 bottles of 2014 Blauw aging so this will be interesting - I am expecting good things from the Gouden Carolus as that is phenomenal fresh.

A few posts ago I enquired as to the effects of the (seemingly) revised ABV of Black. I needn't of worried. Still as extreme as ever. Bitter chocolate, bitter coffee and bitter everything. The ultimate expression of what an Imperial Stout can be if you move the boundaries.

Funny you say that:

My holiday is off to a BRILLIANT start... Best aged beer I've ever drank... One of the best beers I've ever drank, period... I was scared it'd be past its point, being a 2008 bottle... Fuck me running - it sure as fuck wasn't... Slowly gushing foam when opened, poured a beautiful chestnut with a bit of cognac coloured ale that prominently had port in the nose...

The balance... The balance... Dear gods the balance... I'm pretty sure this was at its absolute PEAK...

Good to know - thanks.

Just another 6 years to wait...:bounce2:

For some reason that Rhinegeist logo makes me think of the Cobra logo from the GI Joe cartoon.

lol I can see that. It's actually layered with meaning according to some of Cincy's history and depending on how much of the backstory from the marketing department you want to believe. Not sure who finds this interesting, but I'm going to tell you anyway.

So obviously there were a lot of German immigrants to settle in Cincinnati. That area had a small tributary to the Ohio that reminded them of the Rhine River back home and they settled on the other side … thus the area that became known as "Over-the-Rhine" (OTR now) in downtown Cincy. (The band of the same name is from Cincinnati)

The name is "Ghost of the Rhine" (Rhinegeist) referring to the history and the resurrection of the once prolific brewing industry in the town. The logo then has the skull/ghost in the form of a drop of water/beer and the background lines reference the fields of grain & hops that make the beer … they also reflect the bridges in OTR that at one time crossed the river/canal. Put all that together and I guess that's what they came up with!

They also did this for the cider which I thought was cute and funny….

btw @brp2 did you check out any of those San DIego suggestions I posted?

@Kid Nickels  -- thanks to you and @cocostella for the advice and recommendations.  I haven't actually started planning yet, although I've been meaning to.  I'll definitely look into them soon.
