i see
he's saying they're like roasted malts without the roast flavor (ie the malts only add the dark color, but not the typical roast flavors). a stout would keep the roasted flavors by leaving the husks on when making the wort
what beer made you guys delve into better beers?
mine was brooklyn lager. i've had a few nice beers before that (like delirium tremens and duvel), brooklyn lager made me want more. also made me buy garett olivier's book and i learned a lot from that. before that i though hoegaarden was really good.
