I am a fan of the Mikkeller Spontan series - particularly the pineapple.

They are predominantly fruit based but there is the odd dry hopped version (not for me) and some oddities such as Beetroot. I think they are overpriced for what they are but honestly the pineapple one is phenomenal and I would happily stock up on those.
They are actually made at De Proef so are technically Belgain but as you say it's best to get to know the classics first.
Lambic is quite a new style to me too as nobody I know likes them (or any sours to be honest) so I have those either by myself or when I'm feeling anti-sociable.
Girardin Fond (Black label), stay away from the white label
Quick tip: Oude Kriek and Oude G(u)euze = good. Regular Kriek = sweetened.
Stay away from nonsense such as Lindemans, Timmermans, Chapeau, Mort Subite, Belle Vue,...
Shared some beers with a friend tonight:
Never had anything from these guys before. Pretty substantial, decent malt, a really interesting -- maybe floral? -- flavor in the finish to go along with the hops. Interesting, not what I was really expecting from a DIPA.
Flavors reminiscent of Sticky Hands, but a bit thinner after the start. Overall not bad.
Posted this one a while back, still really like it. Fruity and sour and crisp. Perfect for the abominably hot weather we've been having.
