So my big day is coming up in only a few months time and I'm wanting to put the final touches on the wedding attire for my groomsmen and myself.
I managed to avoid disaster by persuading my fiance that despite the wedding industries insistence, having everyone match was not a necessity. After many arguments and a few tears she has agreed to trust my advice. Phew! I know she will thank me years from now when we look at our wedding photos.
So, with that taken care of I gave my groomsmen the following guidlines:
Grey single breasted suit
White shirt
Polished black shoes
Grey socks to match the suit
Black belt
I am going to provide them each with a tie and pocket square as a gift. The ties will each be in a navy and white color scheme and I've selected a houndstooth, shepherds check, pin dot, striped from various designers - Drakes, Kent Wang, Canali. All the same color, but each a bit different pattern.
This brings me to the pocket square - the original plan is to go with a standard white linen from Kent Wang but an idea dawned on me to possibly go with a blush colored linen pocket square that will match the bridesmaid's dresses. They are mostly blush with a black band/sash around the waist? I just thought it would be a nice gesture from myself to my fiance since she let me have my way and could tie everything together quite nicely Who knows, maybe it would score me some brownie points making it easier to get my way again in the future! Probably a bit of wishful thinking on my part haha. That said, this is an idea only. I haven't approached her with it yet and my main concern is that everyone looks their best.
I found these on etsy, they have gotten excellent reviews. As you can see, they are just slightly off white.

I am in the process of getting a solid navy, two button, single breasted suit made up, in a Zegna "cool effect" wool fabric. I'm not sure if this is just a gimmick but it was one of the lightest fabrics I could find. My internal temperature is quite warm and I generally sweat quite a bit so I wanted to be as comfortable as possible as it's going to be an afternoon, outdoor ceremony in the middle of summer. The fabric looked of excellent quality so I'm sure I will be happy with my decision.
I'm going to finish it all off with a white shirt (spread or semi spread collar), white/black glen plaid tie from Kent Wang, AE black captoe shoes, and suspenders.
So - few questions for you all......
Pocket squares - make the sweet gesture of the blush or stick with the white? If I do go with the blush for my groomsmen, I guess I as the groom should go with that too rather than the white?
Suspenders - I've never worn them before. I am assuming they should match my navy suit?
Shoes - I really like the brogue styling along the captoe. I feel it adds just enough character to a rather plain shoe without going over the top. Thoughts?
Collar - thoughts on semi spread vs spread. I am a bigger guy, 6'2" around 225lbs, muscular build. I do like the look of the spread but having never worn one I'm not sure if it's advisable for my size (read it can make a face look fat lol). Also, is it formal enough for a wedding?
Thanks in advance for all the input. Very much appreciated!
