Didn't realize how cool Visvim was until this thread.
The Visvim bandana/kerchief down jacket: worth it or not?
I'm getting a little pre-occupied with finding one. Always found it interesting, but maybe a little/a lot busy. Now though, I think I can rock it. Anybody have any experience with it? How is possible that this is not gonna just let the down out? Is the bandana fabric sewn on another fabric? How't the sizing?
Anybody wanna dissuade me from my hunt?
I own a kerchief non bandana down jacket. It fits true to size in length but is extremely slim in the arms. Its supposed to be worn as a regular shirt ie just over a tee but if you wanna wear it as a jacket size up.
Down feathers have not leaked from my jacket yet, it has one of the thinnest layers of down baffling of any down outer I've ever worn, don't expect this to be a heavy outerwear piece. Hiroki often layers the kerchief with many other pieces, but he also has stick arms.
The bandana print is not too garish in person. They dye the bandanas in mud dye before sewing the jacket. However, it is extremely fragile because it's composed of all vintage bandanas from the 50s and 60s. It's a tough pill to swallow, but if you own kerchief bandana you have to assume regular wear will cause at least one of the panels to give out in less than a year. visvims recommendation is to patch the jacket yourself with vintage bandana scraps. Even my lhamo came with parts of the fabric mended when it arrived, just the nature of true vintage.
This looks f*cking awesome!
do you have a fit of just your plain lhamo? What'd you end up going, TTS or size up?
As a complete newbie to Visvim, I am thinking to get a lhamo shirt as a first piece - probably like anybody else. I do like the lighter washed denim (?) versions as it would make a fantastic stand alone or layer piece and will likely go well with the EG/ Post Overalls/ orSlow/ etc. stuff I usually wear.
Should I research the usual retailers and see what is available? Or rely on ebay et. al. as those were previous seasons? You guys mentioned tight arms and I have, bigger arms. How big a challenge is it? A size 4 of the Kilgore and Artifact jackets seem to fit me well.
Thanks,
Mike
I think this might have done it. I'll hold off until I see one in person then. I don't have stick arms, and all that I can find online of these things now are second-hand versions, so the chances of the bandanas ripping open are even higher. Where am I gonna get mud dyed bandanas in Bumblefuck NC?!
******* awesome looking things, though.
This looks f*cking awesome!
They do the one-wash lhamo every season, try that first. Its a basic denim lhamo in a soft proprietary denim fabric. Good for layering or as an overshirt.
You can buy the same vintage bandanas on ebay for around $10-$25 condition varying greatly. Then you can buy some mordant and buy some natural japanese mud dye and do it yourself. Dying fabrics is pretty easy if you are actually interested...

Don't have a fit as I usually only wear as a layering piece, but I went true to size. Lhamos run short, they are intended to be short to fit above a t-shirt or buttondown. Don't let the length measurements scare you. Unless you work out a ton, you should go tts.
I'm at 5' 7", and although I'll wear a size S in J Crew, I don't think I have stick arms, was looking for a size 3, you think that's the right size?
