Its not uncommon for edge painting to fail in some form or fashion, even on really high end brands. That said, surface preparation, proper heat/cure time, and application can make a difference in adhesion. The quality and type of edge paint being used can also make a BIG difference. While it doesn't hurt to ask about return/exchange/credit, any competent leather worker can color match and apply edge painting where the existing failed. This would be a pretty cheap job fwiw, and you get to keep your wallet which is of sentimental value.
