So, any more ideas, gents? Linen might be a "cool" *derp* idea. GMM's idea is also neat, but I think we would need more than one week for people to be able to incorporate 2 fits, or allow them to use an old pic for one of the fits.

Or maybe I will just do a striped tie challenge, as that was one of the options that had gotten some steam before Clags rolled this out.

Thoughts?

I will continue to lobby for a cotton/linen (i.e. no wool) trouser (chino?) WITH a tie challenge.

Season appropriate.

A genuine challenge.

I hope to learn something.

How about a very simple challenge that levels the playing field. Basically, wear your best fitting suit and crop away the surroundings so everybody is judged evenly. So no bias about SF valuing suit fits more than odd jackets or environment playing a factor.

Not a bad idea at all l2b. I was thinking to maybe do a no tie challenge for the warm weather. We did one a while back and I think it was pretty good. Both options are solid.

kulata, that is a nice theory, but realistically, we will be able to recognize most, if not all, of the contestants. Also, I dont think most have the skills to crop out all the surroundings without horribly butchering the pics with MS or PB paint/blur.

Any more thoughts?

I want to roll this out by tonight.

Here’s what I wrote at the close of the Hat Challenge:

“In fact, it occurs to me as I write that I’d love to see an ‘Homage to Britain’ challenge someday:   a tribute to the place where the classic style began.   It gave us all the now-familiar categories by which we evaluate fits (city/country, day/evening, etc.), not to mention Macclesfield ties, hacking and Norfolk jackets, the military/equestrian structured look of Saville Row, tweed, and, um, Basil Fawlty and Carnaby Street.   And we’ve got some very well-dressed members from Ireland and the UK.  What’s not to like?”

Cheers,

Ac

I like the idea Ac, but I think most of our wardrobes lack English summer clothes (or is it just mine?). I've got loads of English tweeds if anyone like to do that FC in the fall though.

I think linen/cotton and striped ties are good ideas.

Well, I wasn't thinking that the entire fit needs to be English, or even that the individual items need be made there, just that there's a stylistic connection:  a Macclesfield-style tie, Chelsea boots, etc.

Cheers,

Ac

Striped tie? I predict 40% wearing the navy Hober grenadine with white and brown stripes, 40% wearing the Conrad Wu navy and burgundy shantung grenadine, and the remaining 20% with others!biggrin.gif

They seem to be the (un)official SF club member ties these days!

(Oops - forgot Orge, sporting his BB red with navy and white multi stripe!)

OTH, a striped tie challenge would probably ensure a healthy number of participants, which is a challenge in itself this time of the year.

hmmmmm.

i really like a lot of these options. very much like the british idea, but i fear participation will be low, and it really will be a very hard concept to vote on.

i will pick one of these idea by tonight.
