Slimming down legs for men

Thread Starter
Ever since my teenage years I've had very huge legs. I'm about 6'1" but my legs look absolutely huge compared to the rest of my body...especially my calves. I'm not very heavy for my height either as I weigh about 175 and I wear a sz 31-33 in most pants and I wear small with most tops. People consider me a slim person but I have the calves of a fat/obese person. Has anyone else had this problem? I was overweight about a year ago (210 lbs and 6'1") but I lost a lot of weight very quickly with a few months of running, however, my legs still look abnormally big. Even when I wear certain bootcut jeans my calves feel incredibly tight past the knee. Is there any diet or exercise plan to remedy this? I really don't want to gain any muscle as all I want to do is to loose the fat I have down there so I can achieve a slimmer look. Any words of advice or wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks!

first your body will not slim down just on a specific part of your body. when you lose fat, there are predetermined spots by your genetics ..you will start to lose fat at different parts of your body and in specific amounts.
as far as your let dilemma goes...im not sure why you should feel this way. its in your genes..you just have a lower torso that overpowers your upper torso. there is no diet that will only specifically target your lower body. You'd have to lose weight..and I mean target your entire body...even then there is no guaranteed success.

I have the same thing going on, 'cept its my thighs as well as my calves. For me it's less genetics and more not driving, thus walking everywhere. It builds up huge thigh muscles and moderately huge calf muscles, at least in my case.

Evening the upper body out with the legs is more doable, in my experience, than trying to shrink your legs. Build up your upper body a bit, as well as tone the living bejesus out of your lower body.

Women seem to like the large well toned leg muscles.

I say you should match your upper body to your lower body i.e. Train with weights. You can't target fat loss but you can definately target muscle growth, so do this instead.

Most guys would love to have your problem (too many guys have stick legs). The only fix is to be bedridden for weeks........ Your style of walking probably makes your calves big, so don't push off so much, and say off the balls of your feet.

Not really any advice, sorry, but how the hell do Smalll tops fit you at 6'1? I'm 6'2 and Mediums are often kind of short.

Depends what you're buying of course, but just in general...

We could trade calves, if you want.

I'm actually in a similar situation to the original poster, only the legs part is due to my height (or lack of, thereby).

I'm currently 5"8 and 130lbs. I have a slim upper body, fairly toned and not too much muscle, but just enough (IMHO). Then my legs are a different story. I feel they resemble women's in that my thighs are so rounded and calves abnormally big in proportion to the rest of my body (I think this is mainly due to my legs being short and thus the muscle being 'compressed').

Anyhow, I remember reading somehwere that using a jump rope (intensively) for 30mins is the equivalent of roughly 1-1.5hours on the treadmill. I've got a jump rope and have noticed slow but sure improvements- I am getting 'thinner' which is nice.

Perhaps you could give this a try, as it will work all parts of your body, but your legs, abs and waist more than others.

Hope that helped.

dude, I've aaaaaalways had that problem. I weigh 125 lbs and I have a wicked skinny upper body and have always thought my legs were way too big, especially my calves, but ever since I started running every day (I only do about a mile to two miles depending on how I feel) I feel like they're already looking a lot better. it's been about 3 months now and what happened, for me, was the bulkiness on the lower portion of my legs (between my calves and heel) slimmed down a little and the calves tightened up. so, while my calves aren't actually much smaller, they're a bit "tighter" and the area below them is slimmer so my legs don't look big, they just look in good shape. I really really highly suggest you try that. everyone really noticed the difference after the first couple months, especially the female friends
