What to wear under a grey, v-neck sweater?

What should (or can) I wear under a grey, v-neck sweater? I suppose I can easily wear a white v-neck undershirt. I can also wear nothing at all (not sure how good this is for the sweater, though, it can't be washed in a machine and I want it to last).

Any color shirt will work. Point or button collar. Grey is versatile that way.

Hmm, I guess any color would work. The only question is what kind of shirt should I wear underneath? I assume something formal?

i'd say a red and blue gingham check shirt!

If the grey is neutral in color and pattern, I would probably try layering it over a more boldly patterned shirt. Good balance is key.

do not wear nothing at all. I don't think that's a good look.

The sweater is definitely *not* neutral in pattern, it has many textured vertical lines (which aren't straight, they curve). It's a very dressy sweater.

The color, however, is solid.

Wear something that flatters your personal coloring. The shirt color probably shouldn't be very similar to the sweater color. Please don't show white undershirt. A dress shirt ought to be acceptable. You're young enough to wear a tee shirt instead, depending on the formality of the sweater and the situation.

If I wore a white t-shirt under it, it would be a v-neck (so it wouldn't be visible).

I think a navy blue or a burgundy dress shirt would work best.

what about a white oxford button down? White and grey seems like a nice combo, and oxford is nicely textured.
