This post is typical of the stupidity of this thread. Monica Goodling had the curtains put up. Ashcroft had nothing to do with it, but that story doesn't play nearly as well in the media as "backward and small-minded philistine has Lady Justice statue hidden." This from the same media so dedicated to objective reporting of the news that they had to lie on the floor to get just the right angle to snap photos of Edwin Meese releasing his anti-pornography report with the same Lady Justice featured prominently in the background.

In Ed's defense, this thread started out on stupid, so it would be hard to escape that completely:

Dude have you been there or lived there? Honeslty?? The law isnt even to wear a burkah. Its to cover your head yet a lot of them still do. And plenty of them who move here still cover their head. Although I dont agree with a lot of things over there I dont really think the burkah or head covering is inhumane. However most poeple woiuld still rather live there than here. They hate this country and they love theres even though theres a lot of shit wrong with it. But then again theres a lot of shit wrong with where we live too. Some of us are just too damn ignorant to acknowledge this. Also, women are given a lot of respect in most Muslim countries. Saudi might not be on the top of the list but its certainly not on the bottom either like you think. Those so called laws are not really based of Islam itself but their culture. If youve never lived there or know a lot about (meaning that youve been there and not just what youve read or heard on the news) you would understand. Half the stuff you hear on the media is mistranslated anyways. Such as when the President of Iran said "Wipe Israel off this map". He didnt really say that. But no your going to argue me anyways....

I think after Israel and maybe the USA, Iran is probably the best place to live for the Jews. They have a seat specifically for Jews in the Parliament there so they can have someone represent them. Also they can live there without any harassment from the goverment...the type people here think they give every jew in the middle east.

Its sad how your so ignorant and naive. Oh and the women who still wear hijab and burkah when they are in western countrires are inhumane towards themselves right? Or is it more inhumane to force them not to wear it when they want to themselves. Many women whove never been to those places where it on their own accord and almomst all women who come from those countries wear hijab.

I was under the impression that there were emails from Ashcroft calling for the statue to be hidden.

In any case, my characterization of Ashcroft is based on his entire career, not just this incident.
