Slim Fit Shirts Versus Regular Fit Shirts

I am really confused about all this slim vs regular fit shirt subject.

1. Is slim fit shirts better than regular fit when you go for a job interview? I will be looking for one in a few months.

2. What about shirts that you wear during the day versus the night and your not going to work? I always see other males wearing those tight slim shirts in the summer at night and some during the day. Is slim fit generally better than regular fit in almost every circumstance? All my shirts are regular fit and are pretty loose which is why I am going to get slim fit shirts.

3. Would regular or slim fit shirts be best with a blazer assuming I will not tuck my shirt in.

I think slim shirts are better in every situation if of course they fit your frame correctly. They shouldn't be skin tight (often the clubber shirts are sized down to make them fit tight) but fitted enough so you have room when you sit and so that your shirt doesnt' bunch up too much.

For a job interview I'd say it makes no difference, they don't care whether your shirt is regular or slim fit however if the slim fit makes you look more polished then perhaps it will help your confidence.

I hate loose shirts because they have excess fabric, fit like tents, you can never untuck them, and have no shape. You can pretty much bring any of your big shirts to a tailor to tailor them for you.

1. Is there a difference between slim fit VERSUS fitted shirts? someone in another forum said that these are 2 different types of shirts. I thought it was either slim fitted OR regular fit. So that means theres 3 types of shirts... slim fit, fitted, or regular fit??

2. Also, Would you say those tight clubber shirts should only be worn when you only wear that one shirt or would you say its fine wearing the clubber shirts with a blazer?

Thankkks. Appreciate the help

Most likely it doesn't matter. You will be wearing a suit jacket the whole time anyways. But if you had to pick, nothing too slim, unless you are interviewing for a job in fashion or entertainment.

Neither is "generally better." It's up to you.

Slim, and not too long.

There is no universal "slim" size. Every maker makes shirts with a different degree of slimness. Often slim shirts are called "fitted" or "tailored fit."

Many people wear blazers to clubs. Generally, I've noticed you post a lot questions asking "What is the correct way to wear X?" or "What goes well with Y?" In casual wear, there are no black or white rules. Just pay attention to what other people wear and learn what looks good. Stop trying to copy an outfit from a website or another person exactly. Even if you get the exact same clothes, your build and skin tone won't be the same, and you'll never be able to achieve the exact same look.

I'd also add that the whole look should be somewhat coordinated. For example if you've got a slim/fitted shirt with a baggy suit or vice versa then it will look mis-matched.

Following up on this, in terms of tailoring, if you're going to take it a shirt anyway, does it matter wether you buy a classic fit or a slim fit?

If I buy a classic calvin klein, and then a slim fit calvin klein, but both will need to be taken in, will they both "look the same" after tailoring?

alot of it has to do with the armholes though. im not sure they can be raised/taken up proportionately to make a regular shirt slim up to a slim fit shirt's armholes.

A surprising amount of work can be done, actually -- though, as with everything, there is a logical limit to the magic of the tailor's trade. You're not going to convert a regular-fit 17 x 36 shirt into a slim-fit 15.5 x 32. But you can certainly take a regular-fitting shirt of a given neck and sleeve size and work some wonders on the slimness. Even the armholes, to a certain extent.

Problems arise when you're cutting up and resewing the shirt to such a dramatic degree that everything is thrown out of alignment and just looks terrible. I've seen people whose shirt pockets have migrated too far to the side, for instance, in the process of darting and cutting fabric. As with everything, a good tailor isn't going to take your money if it can't be done well. A good tailor will know not only his limits, but the limits of reason and taste.

You forgot the "modern fit". This is the holy grail of mens shirting.

Slim shirts are a lot better especially if you are very slim in the waist it will get rid of the extra material int he midsection and help keep the shirt looking nice and neatly tucked in.

I'm not sure the point of buying a mid/high price OTR shirt and then spending even more money getting it fixed. Why not just start out with MTM? Unless you're worried about the label.
