What's your shipping experience? - Page 8

USPS is fine, but for international shipping I need to go to the post office, and I HATE THE POST OFFICE!

Interestingly (this never happened to me before) I bought something here in early October. The seller added signature confirmation, so they took it back when I wasn't home to sign for it. They left a slip. I took the slip to the Post Office and they had no idea where my package was! The slip said it would be at the post office, but they'd never heard of it or seen it! I went back several times, and nothing changed. I gave up. Today I went back to the post office for another package, and lo and behold, she comes back with two massive boxes! There my October package was! Almost two months after it was supposed to be delivered! God knows where it was all this time!

I've been using USPS Priority Flat Rate. Been trying to offer the most affordable shipping options, but all of these delivery services keep raising their fees. :/

Whatever you ship, just use some tracking service. I use it for all outgoing parcels containing items I have sold. Once last year, I shipped a big box of clothes to a family member via USPS and it took six weeks to travel from NYC to Chicago (!). This was the one time I did not purchase tracking, and it came back to bite me in the *ss in the weeks before the parcel somehow arrived. On the receiving end, I have been waiting three weeks now for something I purchased from a British SFer. He's a good egg, and do I believe he shipped it, but there is no tracking info or proof of shipment so if it does not arrive in a couple of weeks I will have to ask for my money back.

^ I agree, Mack - I waited 5 weeks for something to come from the UK - without tracking.. but it finally showed.

Shipping has been really hard for me when it comes to international. I've been asked by my oversea customers so many times telling them that there's no way to track an USPS first class international package. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Even though spam ^ the question isn't bad: add registered mail to 1st class or Priority for tracking and delivery confirmation.

You cant. That and you also cant do it online either, it has to be manual.

I've sent pkgs USPS registered and you get tracking until it leaves the country and I believe I got an update on one when it hit the UK. I got a delivered notice when it was delivered. Using this supplies proof that you sent it and it left the country at least.

That may be enough for items up to $250, but anything over $250 needs a signature. Also registered takes about 3x as long as first class if you can believe it. I always find it easier just to do priority if thats the case. Express for anything over $251.

I think the insured amount limit depends on the country - I sent a watch via Registered 1st Class insured for $1500 or so to France - took about 2 wks as I recall. Anyway, I was pointing out a way to get tracking.

Anyone had such an experience before, and if so, thoughts on what I should do: I sent a package to Shanghai, China via USPS Priority Mail. While USPS claims you cannot track Priority Mail, I have in the past had success (varying) in tracking the package using the customs ID associated with the package. Its been ~3 days since I shipped the package and on checking the status on usps.com it is indicated that my package has reached Canada and is going through Canadian customs currently. WTF??? I did buy insurance btw. Should I call USPS and have them investigate? Anyone else had such a bizarre think happen to them?

Ive had this happen - but mostly with 1st class intl packages. Sometimes the customs ID's duplicate over eachother and you get some weird results (you shipped to California, tracking says delivered in Hokkaido). But if you call usps they should be able to help. Did you print the label online? It should not happen if you printed it online. If you filled out forms by hand, then I can see how it may have happened.

Cool, thanks Spoo. Hopefully USPS will sort it out satisfactorily. I did fill out the forms by hand at the post office. Funny shit.

Had the same thing happen then a couple days later got the correct delivery confirmation. So, I'd give it a few days.
