Millet is another option, though it's probably impractical to consume in high quantities.

Pasta Alternative
We recently started substituting squash grated with a cheese grater for most any type of pasta. It's the sauces that give most of the flavor anyway. I always HATED squash until I had it this way.

i cut back about half on rice on all meals and have not eaten italian/pasta yet in the past couple months. i substituted refined starch with more beans/soybean, so forth.
i eat a CLIF bar at night when my willpower is the weakest and need something to munch on.
