Surviving summer working a job that requires a suit

I live in NYC and walk ~1 mile to work.  The way the subways are arranged, taking a train is not an option (and would probably be worse given that the stations are usually hotter than the temp above ground). 

Most days a suit is required for my job.  I would love to hear thoughts/tips on whether there are tweaks I can make to survive (or lessen the misery).

Seersucker also works. I have 2 seersucker suits and 2 cotton suits.
I also carry a handkerchief with me(I live in Boerum Hill, Bklyn and have to commute into the city)...just in case it is REALLY hot/humid waiting for the train/etc.
