Wearing trousers

Alright, everybody knows that 99.5% of men wear their pants too low. I'm one of them. When I pull them up to my navel it looks really stupid. A good bit of it has to do with the fact that I'm on the short side of average, and it makes me look like I have no torso at all. Can one make an exception to wear then lower, or is this just completely unacceptable to wear them so low?

Trousers should be worn the way they are cut. If they have a lower rise, then they should sit below your navel. I'm a little on the short side as well, so these are the kinds of pants I look for. Seeing as I'm broke most of the time, Express and Banana Republic both have 100% wool, low-rise trousers with sale prices well below $50.

Okay. You've been listening to Glenn O'Brien (GQ styleguy)much too attentively. While his advice is often good, he seems to be unhealthily obsessed with emulating some mythical "gentleman" circa 1930, and overgeneralizes to boot. Wear pants so that they look good on you. That being said, higher rise pants are more forgiving and fit a wider spectrum of body types. Low-rise pants look good if you are in reasonably good shape and have a slim physique, drawing the eye to the torso and hips If you are overweight, they are not a great idea.

i agree with la guy, i'm a tall thin guy, if i wore my pants at the navel or higher as they did in the 30s, i'd be all legs and no torso, so i wear them where they fit me best, just below the navel and get my suits tailored so that they sit there as well

it's what works for me, looks good on me and how the pants are usually designed anyway

just my 2 cents

The goal is to split your body in half vertically with the waistline, isn't it? Wear it at whatever point leads to the most symmetry.

I´m also one of those guys who likes to wear my pants lower than average. However I think there are some guys who take that to such an extreme that they look weird. I once saw a young guy in Paris who was wearing his jeans so low, half his butt was literally in full display. I would not have the nerve to go out like that.

In Paris? How about in our own back yard? Any club worth going to [for the twenties crowd] is filled with low-riding wiggers and thug wannabies who think it's a male thong contest. It's really a shame... and to think some girls actually like it? lol well there is still plenty that like my style, shared by many on this board, and that makes it allright.

I just chuckle when i see people with their boxers showing. I just can not, for the life of me, understand wtf they're thinking.

I live in montreal and i see an equal number of white and black guys wearing their 10 sizes too big jeans. A lot of them take it to such an extreme that they have to alter the way they walk so that their pants dont fall down lol. I'm dead serious too... These guys walk like penguins so that their pants don't fall down.

One reason guys probably like to wear their jeans too low is to show their exotic underwear. It´s kind of fashionable to show your butt in this way. Another reason is that low pants make guys look sexier and are more comfortable because they do not add pressure to your underwear and your ********.

I think we should not discourage the women from wearing their pants too low, however. If they want their panties to show, I for one will not criticize them.

Ouch. Okay guys, if your pants are anywhere in the neighbourhood of applying pressure to your genitilia, you gotta go up a couple of sizes. That, or you are applying an auto-wedgie. Not good, either way.

I agree with vero_group about encouraging women to wear their pants lower and lower. Let me see that thong. See, liberals and conservatives CAN agree. We should have a bipartisan conference on this topic alone.

On the other hand (and I am one of the few on this forum who regularly wears low slung jeans) men should definitely stop before any, um, pubic hair goes on display. Also, you jeans should cover the entire butt. Crack kills.

I hate low-rise slacks but am a a big fan of low-rise jeans for men. Jeans are going to end up riding low on the hips every time - you can't escape gravity. If they have a longer rise then you will be sagging which is not a good look. Nobody should walk like a penguin.
